Why I stopped speaking in "tongues" (AND I still believe in the Holy Spirit gifts)
Have you been told you need to pray to God to receive your unique "prayer language" to have greater intimacy with Him? That there's a "baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues?" I bought into this whole idea hook, line, and sinker after being exposed to charismatic authors, online teachers, and Christian pop culture. Only recently did the veil start to lift and I seriously questioned why praying in gibberish in my prayer time never felt right and looked into researching if this practice was consistent with Scripture. The answer I found was a glaring NO. In this episode, I do my best to share my research process of biblical scrutiny, historical and early church analysis, and my understanding of the problematic theological implications of speaking or praying in tongues as gibberish.
