Singing in Victory and in Loss
Voices of Resistance --- Exodus 15:1-21, 1 Samuel 2:1-10 What is worship? That which ascribes worth. Worship declares that God is worthy. Worship puts God at the center. Singing as an act of worship is recorded numerous times in the Bible. Today, we take a look at two such instances: The Song of the Sea, led by Miriam in Exodus, and Hannah’s song in 1 Samuel. These are two songs of Victory that declare God’s worth-ship as a rescuer and savior of God’s people. But there is another side to these songs, one that touches on the complexities of human emotion and experience. Today we will ask: Can our worship be an act of Resistance? How do we sing songs of victory when what we feel is loss? What are these Biblical songs really about? What kind of worship are being invited to participate in?
