Preparing for Marriage Starts Long Before You Meet Someone (w/ David Huish) [Ep. #344]
Aug 19, 202646 min
Being single can sometimes feel like something you're supposed to get through as quickly as possible. But what if it isn't a waiting room? In this episode, Andrew sits down with David Huish to talk about singleness, personal growth, and what it actually means to prepare for marriage. David shares how Core evolved from a small group reading Core of the Universe into an online program and community designed to help people become more connected to themselves, their community, and their future relationships. They talk about why being comfortable in your own skin matters, how phones and modern culture can make it easier to avoid ourselves, and why communication, self-awareness, and connection are foundational skills for healthy relationships. David also reflects on his own experience of preparing for marriage while remaining single. After several years of intentionally doing the work, he describes himself as a happier and clearer single person, with a greater ability to be a blessing to the people around him. The goal isn't simply to get married. It's to become the kind of person who can build a healthy relationship when the time comes. What you'll hear in this episode: How Core evolved into an online program and community Why singleness doesn't have to be something you rush through What it means to be comfortable in your own skin Why self-awareness and communication matter before marriage How phones can make it easier to avoid yourself Why connection with community is such an important part of growth What intentional preparation for marriage can actually look like David's experience of becoming a happier and clearer single Why the work matters even before you have a partner How preparing for marriage can also help you become a healthier person today You don't have to wait for marriage to start becoming the person you want to be. Sometimes the preparation is part of the journey. Feeling stuck in cycles of urges, porn, or hookup culture and ready to build real discipline and freedom? What happens when your phone becomes the first place you turn whenever life feels uncomfortable? In this episode, Andrew sits down with Seiji to talk about how technology is shaping the next generation, especially the way young people experience relationships, emotions, discomfort, and themselves. They explore what happens when teens use their phones to escape awkwardness, boredom, anxiety, or difficult emotions instead of learning how to sit with those feelings and work through them. They also talk about how parents model technology habits, how social media can make real-life relationships feel more intimidating, and why young people need guidance as they navigate a world designed to capture their attention. The conversation also touches on the increasingly easy access to sexual and suggestive content online, the impact of algorithms on developing minds, and why parents can't simply assume their kids will figure all of this out on their own. But this isn't a conversation about throwing away your phone. It's about learning how to use technology as a tool instead of letting it become a place to hide. Because there is a whole world waiting outside the screen: relationships, creativity, nature, conversation, purpose, and the simple experience of being present. What you'll hear in this episode: Why young people are increasingly turning to phones when they're uncomfortable How avoiding uncomfortable emotions can stunt emotional development The way parents' phone habits can influence their children How social media can affect real-life relationships Why technology can become an escape from reality How algorithms can expose young people to sexual and suggestive content Why teens need guidance and support as they navigate technology How to create healthier boundaries around phones and social media Why putting the phone down can help you reconnect with real life The importance of choosing human connection over constant stimulation Phones aren't evil. But they shouldn't become the place where we go to avoid being human. Sometimes the best thing we can do is put the phone down, look up, and see what's actually happening around us. This Is Why You Keep Running Out of Energy [Ep. #342]
Aug 5, 202633 min
Why does it feel like you have less energy than ever before? It's easy to blame a busy schedule, lack of motivation, or poor discipline. But what if the real problem is something much harder to notice? In this episode, Andrew explores the hidden "energy leaks" that quietly drain our emotional, mental, and spiritual capacity every day. From unresolved emotions and chronic stress to endless scrolling and negative self-talk, he explains how these patterns leave us exhausted and why that exhaustion often makes unhealthy habits feel impossible to resist. Rather than relying on willpower alone, Andrew offers a practical framework for identifying what drains your energy, replacing unhealthy habits with life-giving ones, and creating enough margin to pursue the things that matter most. What you'll hear in this episode: Why protecting your energy matters more than relying on willpower The hidden "energy leaks" most people never notice How unresolved emotions quietly drain your capacity Why digital distractions leave you feeling emptier The connection between depleted energy and addictive behaviors Practical ways to build habits that restore rather than drain you A simple weekly challenge to help you identify and replace unhealthy patterns Growth isn't just about doing more. Sometimes it's about stopping the things that have been quietly draining you all along. Single and wanting to prepare for the kind of marriage and relationship you actually want? The Dopamine War: Reclaiming Your Mind From Porn, Phones, and Instant Pleasure [Ep. #341]
Jul 29, 202651 min
Why does it feel so hard to put your phone down? From endless scrolling to social media, pornography, and constant notifications, modern technology has learned how to capture our attention in ways previous generations never experienced. In this episode, Andrew and Benjy unpack the science of dopamine and explain why the problem isn't dopamine itself. It's the way our natural reward system has been hijacked by instant gratification. They explore how technology offers rewards without effort, why that leaves us feeling emptier over time, and what it looks like to build a healthier relationship with our attention. Along the way, they discuss digital detoxes, novelty, purpose, relationships, faith, and why lasting joy is found through growth, not endless stimulation. What you'll hear in this episode: What dopamine actually does and why it isn't the enemy How social media and pornography exploit your reward system Why scrolling never feels satisfying The difference between earned rewards and instant gratification How novelty can either deepen your life or distract from it Practical ways to create healthier technology habits Why purpose, effort, and real relationships lead to lasting joy Technology isn't going away. The question is whether you'll use it intentionally or let it shape the person you're becoming. Single and wanting to prepare for the kind of marriage and relationship you actually want? What causes someone to stop pursuing the person they once couldn't imagine living without? It's easy to assume that love simply fades over time. But what if that's not the real reason? In this episode, Andrew & Benjy explore three common reasons husbands stop pursuing their wives: rejection, resentment, and pornography. Drawing from their own marriages, they share how these struggles create distance not because the relationship is beyond hope, but because they're opportunities for growth rather than reasons to give up. The conversation looks beyond surface-level advice to explore what lasting love actually requires. They discuss learning to accept differences, responding to rejection with maturity instead of withdrawal, and how comparison and fantasy can quietly erode real intimacy. Most importantly, they remind us that healthy marriages aren't sustained by feelings alone they're sustained by intentional pursuit. What you'll hear in this episode: Three common reasons husbands stop pursuing their wives Why rejection doesn't have to define a marriage How resentment quietly creates emotional distance The impact of pornography and comparison on intimacy Why acceptance creates space for deeper connection Practical ways to continue pursuing your spouse through every season How intentional love leads to stronger, healthier marriages Marriage isn't about finding someone who never disappoints you. It's about choosing to keep growing, keep loving, and keep pursuing each other, even when it's hard. Single and wanting to prepare for the kind of marriage and relationship you actually want?
