The Plan No One Wants to Make: Niki Weiss on Death, Caregiving & the Digital Life We Leave Behind
Aug 12, 202623 min
Most people spend more time planning a vacation than planning for the one event guaranteed to touch every family: incapacity, caregiving, and eventually, death. In this powerful conversation, Lindsay Friedman sits down with digital thanatologist Niki Weiss, founder of Endevo, to unpack the conversations most families avoid—and the consequences of waiting too long. Together, they explore why 67% of adults have no comprehensive plan in place, what happens when a crisis strikes without preparation, and why caregiving often begins long before anyone realizes it. Niki shares eye-opening stories from her work helping families navigate legal, financial, physical, and digital planning. From forgotten accounts and inaccessible documents to difficult family dynamics and long-term care decisions, she reveals the hidden challenges that can create unnecessary stress during life's most vulnerable moments. Whether you're caring for aging parents, raising children while supporting loved ones, or simply want to ensure your family isn't left scrambling during a crisis, this episode offers practical wisdom, compassionate guidance, and an empowering reminder: the best time to prepare is before you need to. Because peace of mind isn't about planning for death. It's about protecting the people you love while you're still living.

What If Home Care Isn't Just Tasks? | Simona Gamarnik Redefines Independence for Older Adults
Jul 29, 202628 min
When most people hear the words home care, they immediately think of decline, dependence, and losing control. But what if home care could actually do the opposite? In this episode of The Care Compass, Lindsay Friedman sits down with Simona Gamarnik, Founder and CEO of Blue Palm Care, to explore a radically different approach to aging. Inspired by her grandfather, who lived independently until age 98, Simona built her company around a simple but powerful belief: care should help people maintain their independence—not take it away. Together, they discuss why so many older adults resist accepting help, how families can navigate difficult conversations about care, and why the traditional task-based model often misses what matters most. From purpose and creativity to social connection and lifestyle preservation, Simona shares the six pillars of independence that guide every care plan her team creates. Whether you're caring for aging parents, working in senior care, or planning for your own future, this conversation offers a refreshing perspective on what it truly means to age well—and why maintaining dignity, choice, and purpose may be the most important care plan of all. The Conversation Families Avoid: Chris Foran on Aging, Independence & Vermont Senior Care
Jul 22, 202620 min
Most families don’t realize they need a senior care plan… until they’re in the middle of a crisis. In this thoughtful and deeply relatable episode of LT Care Nav’s Care Compass, Lindsay Friedman sits down with Chris Foran of CarePatrol Vermont to unpack why so many families feel blindsided by aging, caregiving, and senior living decisions — especially in a rural state where resources can feel far away and conversations about “what’s next” are often avoided for far too long. After spending more than 20 years in technology startups, Chris entered the senior care world because of his own family’s experience navigating care for his wife’s parents. What he discovered was a system families are rarely prepared for emotionally, logistically, or financially. Today, he helps families across the entire state of Vermont understand their options before emergencies force impossible decisions. Together, Lindsay and Chris explore the realities of aging in place, why seniors often resist leaving home, the emotional weight adult children carry, and how local guidance changes everything. From remote video tours for out-of-state families to helping seniors see modern assisted living communities in a completely new light, this conversation is full of grounded wisdom, practical guidance, and reassurance for families feeling overwhelmed by the process. Whether you’re actively navigating care for a parent, quietly worried about the future, or simply trying to prepare before a crisis happens, this episode offers clarity, compassion, and an important reminder: it’s never too early to start the conversation.
570 Hours of Hidden Work: What Families Face After Loss with Tracy Flynn
Jul 15, 202625 min
Most people think that when someone dies, the hardest part is the funeral. But for many families, that’s only the beginning. In this deeply grounding and eye-opening conversation, Tracy Flynn pulls back the curtain on the overwhelming reality executors and families face after the loss of a loved one. From probate and paperwork to emptying homes, filing taxes, closing accounts, and navigating emotionally charged family dynamics, Tracy explains why grief often becomes a second full-time job — one most people never see coming. Drawing from her background in financial services and estate administration, Tracy shares how her work was born from watching friends quietly drown under the practical responsibilities that follow loss. She explains why traditional estate planning often leaves families with more questions than answers, how America’s discomfort with death creates chaos for loved ones, and why compassionate project management may be one of the most overlooked forms of support in caregiving and aging today. This episode is for anyone caring for aging parents, serving as an executor, navigating a recent loss, or trying to prepare their family before a crisis happens. It’s honest, wise, practical, and deeply human — the kind of conversation that leaves you feeling both more informed and less alone.
