  Jerry Garcia Band, Beck & Ian Moore Shows

  April had a pretty cool run of shows in Oklahoma. April 10th at Bricktown Brewery was JGB. The Jerry Garcia Band members. Jerry Garcia had already passed by then, so it was not Jerry himself, but still, having members of that band upstairs at the Brewery is pretty wild. Standing room only. Tickets were $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Then the Brewery kept rolling. April 11th was The Verve Pipe. April 15th was Ian Moore. Ian Moore shows up a lot in these old calendars, and that says something about how often certain artists came through and built a real following in the region. Then April 16th brought Beck to the TNT Building. That one stands out. Beck would go on to play places like Cain’s and The Brady, but seeing him at the TNT Building shows just how strong that era was. Smaller rooms, big artists, and shows that look even cooler years later. Jerry Garcia Band members at the Brewery. Ian Moore back in the mix. Beck at the TNT Building.   Guns N’ Roses Cutting Demos, My Introduction To Hollywood Recording Studio

  Three weeks into Hollywood Recording Studios, the first band in front of him was Guns N’ Roses. Not a bad welcome to LA. They were cutting demos for Spencer Proffer, who was deciding whether he wanted to sign the band. Several labels had already passed, which looks like a massive mistake now. The music was there. The chaos was there. And according to the story, the wild Guns N’ Roses studio legends were true. Some of those recordings later ended up tied to The Spaghetti Incident? But there was more. At one point, the demos were copied onto cassette and sent to Max. Somewhere, that tape may still exist, with songs like “Heartbreak Hotel” and other tracks that never fully saw the light of day.
