Episode #414
The Myths We Outgrow on the Spiritual Path
In this episode, Laurie explores a few common myths many of us eventually outgrow on the spiritual path. Spirituality does not guarantee constant happiness, eliminate grief, end suffering, or make our intuition infallible. Spiritual gifts are not the same as emotional maturity, and living in “love and light” does not mean tolerating unhealthy behavior or saying yes to everything. As we grow, these early beliefs are not necessarily proven wrong; they expand and, if we are curious, develop into something deeper, wiser, and more compassionate. Laurie looks at true spiritual maturity as often quieter and more ordinary than we expect. It is often quietly revealed through the demonstration of humility and healthy, but not outrageous, boundaries. Being honest and apologizing when needed. Keeping our word and promises. It is listening without needing to win, and showing kindness when no one is watching. It is acting upon something because you are listening to your heart, your higher self, and the Universe as it speaks to you. Spirituality is not about appearing enlightened or collecting extraordinary experiences. It is about becoming more loving, honest, courageous, humble, and fully human and becoming someone others feel safe with.
