Christian und Ben reflektieren über ein Problem, das sie immer wieder in Verbindung mit der Nutzung von VR (aber nicht nur) haben: die mangelnde Zeit, um sich richtig darauf einzulassen. Mit vielen Verpflichtungen nimmt die Zeit, in der man eine VR-Brille aufsetzen und neue VR-Apps und Spiele ausprobieren kann, stark ab. Klar, das sind immer Phasen, aber kennt ihr das auch, wenn man eigentlich VR spielen könnte, sich aber lieber auf die Couch haut? Vorher sprechen wir aber noch über die neuen VR-Brillen von Pimax.

Vor zehn Jahren übernahm Meta (damals noch Facebook) das VR-Start-up Oculus und begann, Milliarden in die Entwicklung einer Next-Gen-Computing-Plattform zu pumpen. Zwar ist das Geschäft aufgrund der hohen Investitionen noch kein finanzieller Erfolg für Meta, allerdings sind die technologischen Fortschritte gewaltig. Das zeigt nicht zuletzt die gute alte Quest 1, die mittlerweile nicht mehr unterstützt wird. Christian und Ben schauen zurück und schwelgen in Erinnerungen.

Playstation VR 2 war im letzten Jahr eine große VR-Hoffnung und anfangs wurde sie dem auch gerecht. Horizon Call of the Mountain, Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil 8 – damit war der Ton gesetzt, die Erwartungen der VR-Enthusiast:innen für eine glorreiche Zukunft der Plattform hoch. Ein Jahr später ist PSVR 2 praktisch tot. Sony schließt Studios, darunter London Studio und entlässt massenhaft Entwickler:innen. In einem Nebensatz wird die PSVR 2 als neue PC-VR-Brille angekündigt, was praktisch den Ausverkauf der eigenen Hardware auf einer Fremdplattform bedeutet. Dazu kommt, dass die Hardware selbst schlecht gealtert ist. Sony hat sein Mojo verloren...
