Episode #24
When Lyme Disease, Mold, and Chronic Illness Overlap
Lyme disease does not always arrive with a clear tick bite, a textbook rash, or symptoms that point neatly toward one diagnosis. For people with persistent, multisystem symptoms, the clinical picture may become even more complicated when environmental exposures and possible coinfections enter the equation. Dr. Pamela Cipriano is the founder of the Practice of Health and Wellness in Connecticut. Her background spans emergency medicine, hospital medicine, primary care, and functional medicine, and her work now focuses on patients with complex chronic illnesses including tick-borne disease, mold and mycotoxin exposure, and chronic inflammation. Her path into this work began with her son’s prolonged illness and expanded into years of treating patients whose symptoms did not fit conventional diagnostic patterns. In this episode, you’ll discover: Why Lyme disease may be difficult to recognize when testing is inconclusive, symptoms appear long after exposure, or a patient’s presentation resembles another chronic condition How mold exposure, suspected coinfections, immune function, and other environmental stressors may add layers of complexity to chronic illness and influence how different people respond What Dr. Cipriano learned from two patients with seizure disorders she associated with Lyme disease, and why those cases strengthened her focus on investigating potential underlying contributors rather than treating symptoms alone This episode is for people navigating persistent or unexplained symptoms, families dealing with Lyme disease or mold exposure, and listeners interested in how clinicians approach complex cases that may involve more than one contributing factor. - - - - - About the Guest: Dr. Pamela Cipriano is the founder of the Practice of Health and Wellness in Connecticut and the first nurse practitioner in the state to establish an independent practice. She began her career as a certified critical care nurse before becoming an acute care nurse practitioner, working as a hospitalist and intensivist. After earning her doctoral degree in 2016, she opened her solo practice with a focus on preventive and complex chronic care. Her son's delayed Lyme disease diagnosis led her to join ILADS and train with Lyme disease expert Dr. Richard Horowitz. Today, she works with patients dealing with Lyme disease and co-infections, chronic inflammatory conditions, chronic urinary tract infections, mold and mycotoxin exposure, and other complex health concerns, with an emphasis on identifying underlying contributors rather than relying on symptom management alone. - - - - - Social Handles: Website: https://www.thepracticeofhealthandwellness.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Dr.Pamela.Cipriano/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/practicehealthwellness Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@dr.pamelacipriano1329 - - - - - The Mold Pros Website: https://www.themoldpros.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/themoldprofessionals/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/themoldpros/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-mold-pros-inc/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaUbfEQ72pUwsLcE1n-y7kw Subscribe: Spotify , Apple Podcast , & iHeart Radio . - - - - - PODCAST Thank you for listening.
