“Experienced Mom” Is a Very Loose Term
Kari Stern thought baby number three might finally give her the smooth birth experience she’d been waiting for. Instead, she gave birth in the front seat of her brand-new car, in the parking lot of the coroner’s office, with her two older kids in the backseat. Seven years after her second child, Kari was coming back to the baby stage as an older, more experienced mom. She and her husband had changed as parents, her older kids were more independent, and surely this time around they knew what they were doing. Motherhood had other plans. Kari joins Andrea to talk about starting over with a baby after getting some independence back, watching her older kids become siblings again, and discovering that experience doesn't necessarily make motherhood any less unhinged. And the car birth is only the beginning. There are fireworks, a runaway mom, an unfortunate double-stroller incident, and several moments that raise an important question: How many kids do you have to have before you actually know what you're doing?
