Lucas and Luna explore the practical and emotional dimensions of managing money as a couple. Each episode centers on a specific financial tension that arises in partnerships, from merging bank accounts to splitting expenses when incomes are unequal, from saving for a shared down payment to navigating debt brought into a marriage. Lucas draws on research from behavioral finance and real-world case studies, like how the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement affects relationship dynamics or what happens when one partner is a spender and the other a saver. Luna brings in conversations with couples who have found systems that work, grounding each discussion in lived experience. Together, they examine tools like joint budgeting apps, the two-income trap, the psychology of financial infidelity, and how to talk about money without triggering defensiveness. This show is for anyone who wants to move past 'we should talk about money' and into a real, repeatable conversation about p

How One Couple Split Rent and Mortgage Payments Fairly
Aug 18, 20269 minS4
In episode 158 of Money for Couples with Fexingo, Lucas and Luna explore how one couple navigates the tricky common situation of one partner owning a home while the other pays rent. They break down a real-life case: a couple where one person bought a condo before marriage, and the other moved in, leading to an awkward rent-versus-mortgage conversation. The episode covers the three main approaches they considered—splitting market rent, splitting actual costs, or a hybrid that builds equity for both—and why they ultimately chose a plan that feels fair and keeps their long-term goals aligned. Lucas brings the numbers, explaining how they calculated a fair monthly payment that accounts for maintenance, property taxes, and future equity. Luna challenges the assumptions, asking the tough questions listeners are thinking. By the end, you'll have a clear framework for handling your own rent-versus-mortgage debate, whether you're moving into a partner's home or considering buying together. It's practical, honest, and full of specific examples you can use at your next money date. #RentVsMortgage #CouplesFinance #HomeOwnership #Equity #FairSplit #MoneyDate #JointFinances #PersonalFinance #Finance #Business #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #RealEstate #RelationshipMoney #FinancialFairness #Budgeting #WealthBuilding #MarriageMoney Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How One Couple Handles Money When One Spouse Owns a Small Business
Aug 17, 20268 minS4
In this episode of Money for Couples, Lucas and Luna explore how a couple can handle money when one spouse owns a small business. They talk through a real case: a graphic designer whose income swings wildly month to month, and how she and her husband built a system that keeps their personal budget stable. They cover the idea of a 'paycheck' from the business, how to handle irregular income with a buffer account, and why separating business and personal money matters more than you might think. They also touch on how to handle taxes, retirement savings, and the emotional side of income instability. If you or your partner are self-employed or own a small business, this episode gives you a practical framework to make joint finances less stressful. No jargon, just clear steps to help you talk about money without fighting. #SelfEmployed #SmallBusiness #MarriageMoney #JointFinances #MoneyDate #IrregularIncome #Budgeting #PersonalFinance #CouplesFinance #IncomeVolatility #FinancialPlanning #RetirementSavings #Taxes #MoneyConversations #BusinessOwner #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How One Couple Split Bills Fairly When Incomes Shifted
Aug 16, 20269 minS4
When one partner's income drops, joint finances can get tense. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore a real couple's story—Mara and Dev—who faced a 30 percent income drop when Dev switched careers. Instead of renegotiating their 50-50 split, they built a proportional system tied to each month's actual earnings. Listen as they unpack the mechanics: how they calculated percentages, set up separate accounts, and scheduled monthly check-ins that kept resentment at bay. You'll learn one practical tool—the proportional split—and why it works better than a fixed dollar amount when incomes are volatile. Plus, they discuss the emotional side: how to talk about money without blame, and why a 'money date' matters more than a spreadsheet. If you've ever felt the strain of unequal income, this episode offers a concrete framework to try. #IncomesShift #ProportionalSplit #MarriageMoney #JointFinances #MoneyDate #CouplesFinance #FairSplit #IncomeDrop #CareerChange #Budgeting #FinancialPlanning #MoneyTalk #Partnership #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #MoneyForCouples #SharedGoals Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How One Couple Does a No-Blame Money Reset After a Job Loss
Aug 15, 20267 minS4
When one partner loses a job, the money talk can get tense fast. In this episode, Lucas and Luna unpack how one couple handled a layoff with a structured, no-blame money reset: a three-step 'state of the union' that separated facts from feelings, a 90-day spending pause, and a shared 'income runway' number that made the anxiety concrete instead of abstract. They break down why the first money conversation after a job loss usually goes wrong (it's about identity, not arithmetic), how to reframe the budget as a team experiment rather than a verdict, and why setting a 'no big purchases' rule together beats one partner quietly freezing the joint card. Lucas also shares a simple framework for deciding what to cut first — and what to protect. If you or someone you love is navigating a layoff, this episode gives you a script for the first conversation, the follow-up check-ins, and the moment you can finally exhale. Plus: how a couple moves from 'whose fault is this' to 'what do we do next' — and keeps the marriage intact while they do it. #JobLoss #Layoff #MoneyReset #CouplesFinance #MarriageAndMoney #FinancialConversations #BudgetingTogether #IncomeRunway #NoBlameMoney #FinancialStress #RelationshipAdvice #PersonalFinance #CouplesBudget #MoneyTalk #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #MoneyForCouples Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
When a parent's health crisis interrupted their careers, this couple had to rethink every financial plan they'd made. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore how one couple built a caregiving budget, renegotiated their savings goals, and created a shared decision-making framework that could handle the unexpected. They break down the specific numbers: the emergency fund they rebuilt, the reduced retirement contributions, and the new line item for travel and unpaid leave. If you've ever wondered what happens to a joint financial plan when life throws a curveball, this conversation offers a practical blueprint—and a reminder that flexibility might be the most important part of any money plan. #CaregivingAndFinances #FamilyCare #JointFinances #CouplesBudget #EmergencyFund #RetirementPlanning #MoneyConversations #CaregiverSupport #FinancialPlanning #UnexpectedExpenses #FlexibleBudget #SharedGoals #MarriageAndMoney #PersonalFinance #FamilyMoney #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Finance Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
