If you do not, you will not know what the hell is going on in this tale. One cannot even imagine the amount of turmoil that would be caused by that level of confusion. So go ahead and listen to those two tales. In this episode, we join Kensuke as he deals with the consequences of mauling a poison-filled double of Tomisaburo. He does not suffer alone, which is not good news for him. For he is joined by a Conspiracy of Ravens. Led by the pragmatic Robert, they guide him through the stages of his ordeal with a level of sarcasm and familiarity that he would rather do without. Robert must maintain some semblance of camaraderie. between Kensuke and the members of his Conspiracy. He needs to find a way to enlist Kensuke’s aid in finding the mysterious Gonzaemon. She is journeying through the forest to plead with the Wolf deities of the mountain for protection and aid. Robert must remind Kensuke of his pledge to protect the travelers of the mountain roads. Yet the annoying interjections of his soldiers soon reach the level of aggravating when Simon, the most annoying member of Robert’s crew, starts moralizing. As the animosity rises in the group, open conflict soon tests Robert’s skills at diplomacy. All the while, Gonzaemon is making her way through the forest alone, desperately in need of guidance. This tale contains violence, body horror, occult themes, gore, and animals in peril. More specifically, it deals with the aftermath of the consumption of poison, which is not pretty. Tomisaburo uses all of his wits and cunning to escape this wolf, who is driven mad with righteous indignation at Tomisaburo’s crimes. Under the threat of that conflict becoming revealed to the other elevated folk, Tomisaburo learns a shocking new development regarding his true place in elevated society. Armed with this new knowledge, he must reevaluate his actual role in this charade. Moreover, he must decide how to play his part. Should he leave things be and survive, or face certain death to strike back at those who would presume to subdue him. Then again, he may decide to just start a new charade of his own.   For tonight’s tale, we join two young lovers on their way home from an adventure. Yet this was no ordinary date. For they went out in search of a vampire. They wanted to make contact with this denizen of the dark, for they walked the path of the damned as well. They were vampires. Well, not in, like, the literal sense or anything like that. It was complicated and you probably wouldn’t understand, so stop asking about it. Do not presume to judge these two young pilgrims too harshly. You too probably did some weird shit too when you were young. So be thou not proud, gentle listener. So the two young lovers got on a bus expecting it to take them part of the way home. But fate had different plans for them. The bus they were riding was being driven by none other than Tomisaburo, the demon fox lord of the River Village. He informed them that they were scheduled to meet the Vampire Lord of the River Village. The two of them had completed their initiation rituals, and it had been decided that it was time for them to finally become vampires. Like, for real, this time. The journey to the netherworld was long, and fraught with turmoil and confusion. They were forced to confront the mystery of where Tomisaburo got his uniform, how he obtained his bus license, and other trifling mysteries. But at the heart of it all, the two aspiring vampires feared they were not worthy of the dark honor they were about to receive. Tomisaburo reassured them that their claim to their dark honor was valid and well earned. As they all stood before the Vampire Lord of the River Village, their claim was challenged by none other than the Devil Monk, who was in a nearby trash can for unknown reasons. Beneath the eyes of the Vampire Lord, they must join forces with Tomisaburo to defend their claim to the dark gift they have longed for since a few months ago. This tale is about vampires, so it deals with people drinking blood. It was kind of unavoidable. It also deals with the Devil monk, so there is a great deal of creepy, antisocial behavior. Other themes include vampirism, body horror, public swimming pools and the horrible things people do in them, violence, public alcohol consumption, and profanity. Listener discretion is advised.

  For tonight’s tale, we join two young people who together chose to commit the greatest act of defiance in the very face of the ruin at the heart of this world. They met each other, talked things over, and reached the agreement that they had fallen in love with each other. They overcame multiple obstacles to do this. The greatest of which was determining which one of them fell in love first. Since this was a mystery ill-suited to their youthful spirits, they agreed that they fell in love at first sight. But the question lingered. Their love was not allowed to bloom unopposed, as they were surrounded by hostile onlookers. Most of the hostility was from their classmates who were sick of them going on about who fell in love with who first. That conversation was insufferable and annoyed everyone who happened to overhear it. However, a small portion of it was a product of their elevated status. For these two lovers were self-proclaimed vampires. They were pilgrims on the path to the netherworld, and other people thought that was ridiculous and pretentious. But when their teacher, who was late to class that day, tells them to investigate the recent vampire attacks in the nearby village, the undead students find themselves at a crossroads. The village, which is full of drunkards and the types of weirdos who walk around with their pants unzipped, is ruined and they’d just as soon not deal with it. However, there may be a real vampire stalking the darkened River Road. This could be their chance to meet an actual vampire. Or rather, another actual vampire. This tale contains references to vampirism, which should be obvious from the title. It also contains mentions of violent assaults, the consumption of blood, antisocial behavior, mistrust in authority figures, creative writing classes, and public intoxication.   For tonight’s tale, we sneak into the icy depths of the archives to steal part of a tale to break the heat of the summer. This tale deals with Tomisaburo, the mastermind behind most of the ruin at the heart of the River Village. While we may know him as a cunning strategist who always manages to stay ahead of his hunters, that was not always the case. He used to be a rash and impetuous little upstart that actively pursued danger. Well, maybe not much has changed since then. But he has gotten a lot better at escaping those consequences. This is the tale of the incident that taught him the importance of doing that. Indeed, his heightened sense of self-preservation began with this very incident. For this was the time that Tomisaburo came very close to being killed. The tale begins with Tomisaburo, brooding away in a hole he dug into the earth. He managed to single-handedly enrage an entire village of humans. This was done by flagrantly humiliating one of the head villagers well past the point of financial ruin. In doing so, he exposed the corruption at the heart of the upstart government that the humans were trying to enact. The head villager was overcome with shame at his misdeeds. Driven to madness, he and his entire family burned their estate to the ground and died in the fire. The only survivor was a young noblewoman named Gonzaemon. Offended by this unprovoked aggression from this upstart Kitsune, the villagers hunted down all foxes, Kitsune, and any other creature they didn’t trust. In order to appease their anger, the Kitsune of the area agreed to aid the villagers in their quest for revenge. Indeed, Tomisaburo’s own father promised to deliver Tomisaburo’s pelt to them while it was still warm with his living blood. But the head of a noble Kitsune family had a different proposal. He proposed that Tomisaburo should be made to repay the damages he caused to the village. The way he created for Tomisaburo to do this was too horrible for him to endure. For he intended to marry Tomisaburo to his daughter. Furthermore, he was being put in charge of the protection of Gonzaemon, the strange daughter of the disgraced village elder. So Tomisaburo plots his escape from this horrific fate. But he soon learns that the marriage may never have a chance to occur. For he has incurred the wrath of every creature in the area. With the Mountain of the Wolves at his back, the Ground Spiders crawling through the earth, and the Ravens patrolling the skies above him, there may not be enough of a pelt to deliver to the vengeful villagers. This tale is the first part in a series available to our Patreon listeners, so it contains references to previous tales. It contains violence, occult themes, blasphemy, body horror, government corruption, and references to gambling. Furthermore, it contains profanity and references to excessive alcohol consumption.
