Ep 56 - The Girl Who Vanished From the Tent - Sophie Hook
“Sophie went to sleep only yards from the house. By morning, her sleeping bag was empty.” During the summer holidays of 1995, seven-year-old Sophie Hook travelled with her family to Llandudno for her cousin’s birthday. That evening, Sophie, her sister and their cousin were allowed to sleep in a new tent pitched in the enclosed back garden. The adults were close by, the security lights overlooked the lawn and Sophie was safely inside when the children were checked shortly after midnight. But when morning came, Sophie was gone. Her sleeping bag was empty. Her beloved stuffed giraffe, Blankies, had been left behind. There was no sign that she had entered the house and no explanation for how she had disappeared from the garden without waking the other children. As her family searched the surrounding paths, police began tracing the movements of an unknown figure seen near the house, the bridle path and the seafront. This week, the Archive examines the disappearance of Sophie Hook — the birthday tent, the search through Llandudno and the evidence that would lead investigators towards a man whose presence had already unsettled others that day.
