Episode #116
The One Question to Save Your Relationship(s)
What if one simple question could change the way you handle conflict, disconnection, and misunderstanding in your relationships? In this episode of NeuroFM, we unpack the power of asking, “What is it like to be on the other side of me right now?” Instead of immediately defending your intentions, explaining your behavior, or trying to prove your point, this question invites you to step outside of yourself long enough to become curious about the impact you’re having on the people you love. For autistic and neurodivergent adults especially, this kind of perspective-taking may not always happen automatically—but that doesn’t mean it can’t become a skill. We’ll talk about the difference between intent and impact, why emotional maturity requires curiosity instead of defensiveness, and how one well-timed question can interrupt destructive relationship patterns before they become permanent. You don’t have to perfectly understand another person’s experience to love them well—but you do have to become willing to ask what their experience of you actually is.
