Pilate responded with a cynical question, what is truth, and walked away without waiting for an answer. That moment captures something deeply familiar. We live in a culture that has largely given up on the idea of objective truth, preferring instead the language of personal perspective and individual experience. Relativism tells us that truth bends to whoever is speaking, but truth does not work that way. Gravity does not require belief to function, and neither does truth. It stands whether anyone agrees with it or not. Jesus did not merely teach the truth or point toward it. He claimed to be the truth, the way, and the life. That claim sets Him apart from every philosopher, religious founder, or moral teacher in history. The world lies under the influence of the one Scripture calls the Father of lies, and into that world Jesus stepped as the definitive witness to what is actually real. The story of Barabbas, the guilty man released while the innocent Jesus was condemned, is not just a historical detail. It is a picture of substitutionary grace. Jesus took the sentence that belonged to Barabbas, and He takes the sentence that belongs to every believer. For Christians today, the challenge is to return to Scripture as the foundation of truth rather than treating it as one voice among many competing with cultural wisdom. Research consistently shows that fewer believers hold to the authority of biblical truth, often supplementing faith with whatever the surrounding culture affirms. But the Bible is not a supplement. It is the mirror that shows us who we are, who God is, and what we truly need. Listening to Jesus is not a one-time decision. It is a daily, ongoing posture of the heart. And sharing that truth with a searching world is not optional. It is the most loving thing a believer can do.
