“Support: Are We Asking for What We Really Need?”
Send us Fan Mail What does support really mean? We often say, “I just want to be supported,” but have we ever stopped to ask ourselves what support actually looks like for us ? In this episode of New Mind, New Body, New U , I want to have a real conversation about support—the support we desire, the support we give, and the support we sometimes receive but fail to recognize because it doesn't arrive in the way we expected. Support isn't always someone agreeing with U. It isn't always someone fixing the problem. It isn't always financial, loud, public, or visible. Sometimes support is someone listening. Sometimes it's checking on U. Sometimes it's giving U space. Sometimes it's holding U accountable. And sometimes it's simply saying, “I'm here. What do U need from me?” But here's the other side of that conversation: Have U actually told people what U need? We can't expect people to read our minds and then become disappointed when they don't support us correctly. Part of growing is learning how to communicate our needs without guilt, fear, or assuming that someone should just know. And when people DO show up—are U able to acknowledge it? Questions to Challenge the Listener What does support look like to U? When was the last time U clearly communicated what U needed? Are U expecting people to know how to support U without telling them? Have U overlooked someone's support because it didn't look the way U imagined? Do U give others the same kind of support U expect to receive? Who consistently shows up for U—and have U told them that U appreciate them? Are there people U keep expecting support from who have already shown U that they cannot give it? Closing Thought Maybe the question isn't simply, “Who supports me?” Maybe we also need to ask: “Do I know what I need? Can I communicate it? Can I recognize it when it arrives? And am I willing to give that same support to someone else?” Because true support isn't about having a crowd around U. It's about having people who understand how to stand WITH U—and being self-aware enough to recognize when they already are. New Mind. New Body. New U.
