Episode #6
Burn It Down, Build It Better
Same heart. Bigger vision. Better energy. This week on Not Your Around the Way Gworl Podcast, we’re talking about what happens when you hit a season where you don’t necessarily want a whole new life… you just want to build the next version more intentionally. This episode is personal. With my dad’s birthday coming up, I’ve been thinking a lot about legacy, family, faith, grief, sisterhood, confidence, and what we choose to carry forward. My dad passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2016, so seeing the recent FDA approval of a new targeted treatment for certain pancreatic cancer patients was incredibly bittersweet. I wish options like this had been available when he was fighting, but I’m genuinely grateful for the families who may have another option today. I’m also sharing what it meant to see my dad’s military service honored and talking about one of the things I’m proudest that he left behind: his book, Discipleship Boot Camp for the Kingdom of God by Dr. Darryl J. Bryant Sr. If you’re intentionally building your relationship with God, I truly believe his book can be a meaningful resource. Supporting it also means supporting my family lineage and helping keep something my dad created moving forward. I’m so proud of him. We’re also getting into something very close to my heart this season: building a deeper relationship with my older sister. We’ve realized we have so much in common—from being bookworms to loving gardening—and I don’t want us to simply know that we’re sisters. I want us to actually know each other. I’m talking sister trips, summer vacations with our kids, holiday dinners, random phone calls, cousin memories, books, gardens, laughter, and finally putting some of those “girl, we need to get together” conversations on the actual calendar. Because sometimes legacy isn’t only what someone leaves behind. Sometimes it’s what the people they leave behind decide to build together. And of course, we’re still talking about reinvention, visibility, confidence, walking into rooms, pouring into people who pour back, and refusing to shrink just because somebody else is uncomfortable with you knowing your worth. In This Episode: ● Honoring my dad as his birthday approaches ● Grief ten years later and how it changes ● New progress in pancreatic cancer treatment ● My dad’s military legacy ● Discipleship Boot Camp for the Kingdom of God ● Strengthening my relationship with my older sister ● Half-sibling relationships and choosing closeness as adults ● Sister trips, family vacations & holiday traditions ● Creating relationships between our children ● Reinventing your life without rejecting your past ● Becoming more visible and entering new rooms ● Confidence vs. arrogance ● Why I’m no longer shrinking to make other people comfortable ● Building something worth leaving behind As with any dietary supplement, review the ingredients and directions and speak with a healthcare professional if you have questions about whether it’s appropriate for you. Support My Dad’s Legacy Discipleship Boot Camp for the Kingdom of God by Dr. Darryl J.
