8.18.26 Love, Loyalty & Getting Old
This week on Oooh They Funny, we’re getting into love, loyalty, race, and the reality of watching our parents get older. We start by asking whether relationships are ever truly 50/50 when it comes to love, whether you’d rather love your partner more or be loved more, and when loving somebody too much can cause you to lose yourself. Then we get into “Coonin’ Ain’t Easy,” sparked by Stephen A. Smith receiving the NABJ’s “Thumbs Down Award,” as we debate the difference between holding the Black community accountable and building a platform by constantly criticizing Black people for the approval of certain audiences. Finally, we lighten things up with “My Parents Started Acting Old,” talking about those funny—and sometimes emotional—moments when you realize your parents are starting to move, talk, and act like your grandparents used to. It’s an episode about relationships changing, communities holding each other accountable, and realizing that whether we like it or not, everybody is getting older.
