Episode 287 | Why High Achieving Women Quietly Undermine Themselves with Dr. Darby Bonomi, PhD
In today's episode of Psych Talk I chat with Dr. Darby Bonomi, PhD, sport and performance psychologist, about why high achieving women undermine themselves. Dr. Bonomi discusses what a performance psychologist is and her journey into working with high achieving women. We discuss her book Unshrinkable: Why Strong Women Secretly Criticize, Diminish, and Thwart Themselves...and How to Stop and what inspired her to write it. Dr. Bonomi discusses why high achieving women tend to be so self-critical and hard on themselves, as well as why they tend to minimize their success and amplify their mistakes. We discuss perfectionism in high achieving women and the "good girl" mentality that many high achieving women possess. We end the episode by discussing some practical steps high achieving women can start implementing in their lives to overcome that self-critical voice, "good girl" mentality, and any other mindsets that may be holding them back.
