Lucas and Luna examine the evolving dynamics of earned media in an era of fragmented attention. Each episode dissects a real-world PR campaign—from a startup's product launch to a multinational's crisis response—using original press releases, media coverage data, and journalist feedback. Lucas, drawing on his background as a former business reporter, interrogates the news value of each pitch, while Luna, with her agency-side experience, challenges assumptions about audience targeting and message discipline. Together they walk through the full arc of a public-relations effort: identifying the right beat reporters, crafting a narrative that survives the first paragraph, managing the asymmetry between what a company wants to say and what a journalist will publish, and measuring outcomes beyond clip counts. They avoid PR platitudes and instead focus on specific tactics like embargo strategies, byline placement, and the signal-to-noise ratio in a crowded inbox. For anyone who has ever wonde

How to Pitch a Journalist Using Their Own Beat
Aug 18, 202611 minS4
In this episode of Public Relations with Fexingo, hosts Lucas and Luna explore a counterintuitive PR strategy: using a journalist's own beat as the foundation for your pitch. Instead of pitching your product or angle, you craft a story that aligns perfectly with the reporter's established coverage territory. Lucas breaks down the anatomy of a beat-based pitch, from the initial research phase to the final email, and shares a real-world example where a small fintech startup got coverage in a major business publication by positioning their funding news as a natural extension of the reporter's existing series on small business lending trends. Luna challenges the approach, asking how to avoid being too generic when many PR pros are already targeting the same beat. They discuss the difference between a beat and a niche, how to find the sweet spot of relevance, and what to do when your story doesn't fit neatly into any beat. Tune in for a practical field guide to pitching with precision and respect. #PRStrategy #EarnedMedia #MediaOutreach #JournalistBeat #PitchingTips #PublicRelations #Marketing #BusinessPodcast #FexingoBusiness #MediaRelations #Journalism #PRTips #Storytelling #ContentMarketing #FintechPR #SmallBusinessLending #BusinessJournalism #PitchPerfect Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In this episode of Public Relations with Fexingo, Lucas and Luna explore the power of understanding a journalist's beat—their regular coverage area—as a strategic PR lever. They discuss why generic pitching fails and how deep knowledge of a reporter's past stories, sources, and style can transform outreach. Using the example of a tech reporter covering AI regulation, they show how to craft a pitch that speaks directly to the journalist's ongoing narrative, not just their latest article. The conversation covers practical steps: researching a beat, identifying gaps in coverage, positioning your story as a natural fit, and building long-term relationships. Lucas and Luna also touch on the ethics of beat-based pitching—avoiding manipulation while adding genuine value. Tune in to learn how to move beyond one-off pitches and become a trusted resource for the journalists who matter most. #PRStrategy #JournalistBeat #MediaPitching #EarnedMedia #PRTips #Journalism #MediaRelations #Storytelling #Marketing #BusinessPodcast #FexingoBusiness #PRInsights #ReporterRelationships #ContentStrategy #MediaOutreach #PressCoverage #PublicRelations #PRCommunity Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How to Turn a Journalist's Own Archive Into Your Pitch
Aug 16, 202610 minS4
In this episode of Public Relations with Fexingo, Lucas and Luna explore a powerful PR technique: pitching a journalist by tapping into their own archive of past work. They walk through a real-world example where a small tech startup landed a feature in a major tech outlet by referencing a reporter's three-year-old piece on supply chain resilience. The hosts break down how to find the right archival article, how to frame your pitch around it without being sycophantic, and the exact language that makes the connection feel valuable to the journalist. They also discuss common pitfalls, like over-referencing or pitching a story that's too tangential. By the end, you'll have a practical strategy for building genuine rapport with journalists and making your pitches stand out. If you've been looking for a way to move beyond generic press releases and into meaningful media relationships, this episode gives you a concrete next step. #Journalism #PRStrategy #MediaOutreach #EarnedMedia #StoryPitching #ReporterRelations #ContentMarketing #BusinessJournalism #TechPR #StartupPR #PublicRelations #MediaRelations #PitchingTips #JournalistTips #PRHacks #Marketing #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How a Journalist's Old Pitch Became Your Winning PR Move
Aug 15, 20269 minS4
In this episode of Public Relations with Fexingo, Lucas and Luna dig into a clever twist on PR strategy: using a journalist's own rejected pitch as the key to landing coverage. They walk through a real-world example where a startup noticed a reporter had pitched a story to their own editor, got turned down, and then used that very idea to craft a pitch that got published. The hosts break down why this works—it's about showing you've done your homework and understanding the reporter's perspective—and share practical tips on how to find these golden opportunities without being creepy. They also discuss the fine line between smart research and stalking, and how to frame your pitch so it feels like a collaboration, not a scavenger hunt. If you've ever struggled to get a journalist's attention, this episode offers a fresh angle that might just be the key to unlocking your next big feature. #PublicRelations #PRStrategy #MediaOutreach #EarnedMedia #JournalistRelations #Pitching #StoryIdeas #ReporterResearch #ContentMarketing #BusinessPodcast #MarketingPodcast #FexingoBusiness #PRTips #MediaRelations #Journalism #FeatureStory #StartupPR #PRHacks Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore a surprisingly effective PR tactic: using a journalist's own podcast as a research tool to craft pitches that land. They break down how to mine podcast episodes for a reporter's genuine interests, recurring questions, and even pet peeves, then use those insights to pitch stories that feel tailor-made. The conversation centers on a real case: a fintech PR team that landed coverage in a major business publication by referencing a specific episode where the journalist expressed frustration with jargon-heavy pitches. Lucas and Luna discuss the practical steps—from transcribing key moments to identifying the reporter's 'north star' topics—and warn against overstepping into stalker territory. They also touch on the importance of timing, referencing recent episodes versus old ones. By the end, listeners will have a clear framework for turning a podcast into a PR goldmine, with a specific example to illustrate the approach. This is a must-listen for PR pros and marketers looking to cut through the noise with genuinely personalized outreach. #PR #MediaOutreach #EarnedMedia #JournalistPitching #PodcastResearch #PRStrategy #MediaRelations #StoryPitching #JournalistRelations #ContentMarketing #DigitalPR #BusinessJournalism #FintechPR #PodcastPitching #MediaPitching #JournalismTips #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
