174: They've Brainwashed You to Think Psych Meds Are Good, But They Make You Worse
Aug 21, 202632 min
Access Kelly's Beauty Backroom event here . Psychiatric medications only make you worse. A Yale study found that 1 in 23 people prescribed an antidepressant go on to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and the field calls that "unmasking" rather than causation. I trained as one of the first 300 reproductive psychiatrists in the world, and I stopped writing prescriptions in 2010 after research on long-term outcomes reframed everything I'd been taught about efficacy and safety. The recent Lindsay Clancy case pulled me back into activist territory after years of stepping away from it. This episode is my attempt to say what I thought I'd already said loudly enough. There's literature on treatment-emergent violence to self and others that most prescribers have never read. There's a phenomenon called tardive dysphoria. There's David Healy's work on stable volunteers becoming acutely suicidal after exposure to psychotropics. If you've ever considered a psychiatric medication to get through a hard chapter, or if you love someone who has, this is the fuller picture I wish more people had access to before the prescription pad comes out. 173: The Dark Side of the "Community Culture" Nobody Talks About
Aug 17, 202631 min
Access Kelly's Turn On Training here . Save your seat for Kelly's Turn on Training here . Everyone tells you that you need to be in a community, but what if that was one of the most dangerous things you could do? This is a solo episode, and I am walking through the arc of my own relationship to community, from Francis Weller's work on the village we never had, to the small circle of Waldorf mamas in Miami, to the plandemic years when intentional community felt like a lifeline. A lot of what I chased did not hold. Friend groups fractured over values. The sovereign communities collapsed under interpersonal conflict. Even the online spaces started to feel like surrogate families carrying weight they were never designed to carry. The tension I keep returning to is this: Community asks for a fixed set of shared beliefs. I am someone who evolves, changes my mind, and drops ideologies when they stop resonating for me. Those two things do not fit cleanly together. I also share what my friend Alyssa is doing that seems to be working, and why the ache I felt listening to her did not translate into wanting her life. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [2:23] The community wound and why Francis Weller says it haunts us all [5:00] How I detonated a bomb in my holistic mom group over values [8:49] Why conscious communities keep collapsing under their own projections [11:03] The one friend whose thriving community makes me ache with longing [12:58] The part of me that has zero interest in community at all [18:33] Ideology-based communities become cults you can be punished for leaving [21:37] An HOA with nothing in common is somehow even weirder [23:16] Recurring revenue and digital membership sell community as a false cure [26:37] The ideological prison distorting how women approach beauty and surgery [30:33] Tom Cowan on why shared ideology fails without a shared project Resources Mentioned: Own Your Self by Kelly Brogan, MD | Book or Audiobook The Wild Edge of Sorrow by Francis Weller | Book or Audiobook Want to start a podcast like this one? 172: Bizzie Gold: Conventional Mental Health is Fixing The Wrong Thing
Aug 10, 20261h 27m
Save your seat for Kelly's Turn on Training, 8/12 at 12PM ET here . Bizzie Gold built a behavior prediction technology that’s 98.3% accurate, and it exposes why most mental health diagnoses are pattern recognition wearing a lab coat. Bizzie is a tech founder, behavior futurist, and the creator of Brain Pattern Mapping and Break Method, a rewiring system built on 12 years of data across thousands of clients, prison populations, and residential programs. I did her PredictiveMind™ session before we recorded, and one specific finding cracked open something I'd been circling for years: why I can be fully assertive in one dynamic and completely fawning in another. It comes down to perceived power, and until the Bizzie named it, I couldn't see it. Bizzie describes her five brain pattern types, the separation of abandonment from rejection wounds, and why narrative talk therapy misses the actual root cause of behavior. She also explains why borderline and narcissism can shift, despite what the establishment claims. If you've been sorting yourself with Instagram carousels and attachment labels, this conversation will make that framework feel very small. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [5:01] From mental health to celebrity trainer and back again [9:02] The mother with borderline personality disorder behind her mission [20:59] Psychiatric diagnosis is pattern recognition dressed up as science [37:51] The five brain pattern types, and why we shift between them [45:55] Abandonment and rejection wounds are not the same, mental health conflates them [58:52] The cowboy pattern, and how childhood repetition predicts who you become [1:05:03] 100 years of the mental health establishment may be a farce [1:08:53] Can borderlines and narcissists actually heal, or just manage? [1:22:36] The "I'm the narcissist" moment, and why Instagram makes it worse Want to start a podcast like this one? Book your free podcast planning call here . 171: Why Most Pet Owners Are Accidentally Making Their Animals Sick | Ditte Young
Aug 3, 202652 min
Save your seat for Kelly's Turn on Training, 8/12 at 12PM ET here . Pet owners might be the cause of their pet’s sickness. Ditte Young is a clairvoyant, an internationally renowned telepath featured on The Telepathy Tapes, a TEDx speaker, and a bestselling author whose work bridges animal communication, parenting, and intuitive development. My karmic cat Mushu has triggered more inner work than almost anything else in my adult life, so this conversation went somewhere personal fast. Ditte explains how animals experience pain, why none of the dying animals she has sat with were afraid, and what's really happening when your pet seems to be mirroring your emotional state. She also addresses the question I think many animal lovers privately wrestle with: how do you eat meat while loving animals as soulful beings? Her answer surprised me. So did her perspective on why punishment fails with every species, and why one simple sentence spoken to your pet before you leave the house actually lands. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [6:16] How Ditte discovered she could hear animals as a sensitive child [10:56] Why animals mirror our nervous systems and become more than just a pet [13:54] Exploring whether some animals spiritually contract to carry our unconscious conflicts [15:48] Why an animal's illness might reflect the human's unaddressed issues [18:30] Elephants and dolphins reveal which intelligence actually measures [22:07] The unresolvable dilemma of loving animals and eating them for dinner [35:32] Punishment never works and what to do instead of the spray bottle [42:44] What animals actually feel about pain and dying, and why they're never afraid [48:13] Can a soul cross species, or does a cat soul stay a cat soul [52:32] The envelope test and why telepathy is the easy part Want to start a podcast like this one? The reason discipline feels so hard isn't laziness, and it isn't a lack of motivation either. This episode answers a listener's question about how to actually follow through on the things we choose for ourselves, and my answer reframes the whole conversation around the inner masculine and inner feminine. Most of us are running discipline through an inner tyrant that bullies, coerces, and shames us into action. That energy is a trauma field, not a practice. There's a different way to relate to your commitments, and it starts with listening to the part of you that doesn't want to do the thing without doing it wrong. Let’s get into the difference between muscling through and reaching a real consensus between your parts. The dishes, the dance classes, the 5:00 AM sadhana I kept for five years and then released in 2020, the mundane masculine initiations like leasing a car alone, all of it points at the same thing. Once the masculine container is set, the feminine can play. You’ll learn: [0:00] Introduction [3:12] Why the immature inner masculine bullies you into productivity through self-flagellation [5:19] How the meta-self organizes conflicting inner parts without forcing consensus [7:40] Maturing the masculine through mundane tasks actually makes you feel safer [9:46] Connecting to a good “why” transforms discipline from compliance into devotion [12:50] Why a five-year 5:00 AM sadhana eventually felt rigid, dogmatic, and unloving Want to start a podcast like this one?
