Season 8 Episode 13 Los latinos en la Revolución Americana (America 250)
As America approaches its 250th anniversary, we ask a question that doesn’t get asked nearly enough: Where were Latinos during the American Revolution? The answer may surprise you. In this special episode of Rediscovering Latinidad, we explore the often-overlooked role that Spanish America, Latino military leaders, Black communities under Spanish rule, and Hispanic families played in the founding of what would become the United States. From Bernardo de Gálvez, whose military victories helped secure the Gulf Coast and divert British resources, to Francisco de Miranda, whose revolutionary ideals connected struggles for independence across the Atlantic, we examine how Latino history has always been part of the American story. We also travel to colonial St. Augustine, where Spain offered freedom to many enslaved people fleeing British colonies. This episode reminds us that America’s story has never belonged to one people alone.
