Watch the full lecture here: https://rucenterforpsychoanalysis.substack.com/p/recording-an-intro-to-psychoanalysis This is the 10th class in An Introduction to Psychoanalysis, which you may read about here: https://rucenterforpsychoanalysis.substack.com/p/introduction-to-psychoanalysis-with We looked at the work of Jean Laplanche and the ways in which his ideas lend themself well to queer theory, reviewed The Queerness of Psychoanalysis (2025), Heinz Kohut and Self Psychology, before venturing into Transpersonal Psychology a la Abraham Maslow and Stanislav Grof. Finally, the class concluded with a look at Israel Regardie, a Reichian lay analyst at the crossroads of 20th-century psychoanalysis and occultism. Our final Intro class will be on Saturday, September 12th! We will focus on Frantz Fanon and liberation psychology, Thomas Szasz, R.D. Laing, and the anti-psychiatry movement, as well as Patricia Gherovici’s Gradiva award-winning The Puerto Rican Syndrome (2003). This will set us up nicely for what we’re diving into next: a close reading of From the Clinic to the Streets: Psychoanalysis for Revolutionary Futures (2026) by Dr. Lara Sheehi.
