Day 273 — “Who Do You Say I Am?”
Day 273 — “Who Do You Say I Am?” Matthew 16 | The Story of Scripture There are plenty of opinions about Jesus. Some call Him a good teacher. Others see Him as a prophet, a moral example, or an influential figure in history. But in Matthew 16, Jesus asks His disciples a question that every one of us must answer: “But who do YOU say that I am?” Peter responds with one of the greatest confessions in Scripture: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” — Matthew 16:16 Peter recognized Jesus as the promised Messiah. But Jesus would soon teach him that recognizing the Christ also meant understanding the cross. Jesus did not come simply to improve our circumstances or meet our expectations. He came to suffer, die in the place of sinners, and rise again so that we might have eternal life. And following Him means more than knowing the right answers. It means surrendering our lives to His authority. It is possible to say the right things about Jesus while still resisting what Jesus says. So today, consider this: Are you following the Jesus revealed in Scripture, or a version of Jesus shaped by your preferences? Are you willing to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him? Because the most important question you will ever answer is not what you accomplish, accumulate, or achieve in this life. It is this: “Who do YOU say Jesus is?” He is the Christ. The Son of the living God. The crucified and risen Savior. And He is worthy of your life.
