The groups was already low on food, and the next few months would see them eating things none of them would have ever dreamed would pass their lips. Even when rescue parties began to show up, people had become so used to this way of survival that they kept doing what they felt was necessary. The events that took place on what is now known as Donner's Pass haunted the survivors for the rest of their lives. Leaving a little latter in the year than was good for them, the Donners and Reeds took a shortcut that had been suggested by a man from Ohio. They had chances to get back on the regular trail, and did a time or two, but they always got back off and took the new route. Things went bad before the group even made it to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Crossing over 100 miles of a dry salt lake bed was no easy feat, and things only get harder as the group travels along.   Send us Fan Mail We have an unsolved case for you guys this week. In 2009 a woman walking her dog came across a bone. After snapping a picture and sending a quick message, she learns it is a human bone, and calls law enforcement. What would come out of this area in the desert of New Mexico shocked investigators, but still it remains unsolved. 11 bodies were found out in West Mesa. Most were sex workers with addiction problems, so their disappearances were not noticed for quite some time. That time gave the killer a chance to stop these murders before he got caught. Or maybe they got arrested. Or maybe they moved to a new location. We may never know.   Send us Fan Mail This week we are looking into a racially motivate event that may not have lead to the death of anyone, but definitely left it's mark on a whole community. During WW2 officials wanted to cut back on the unnecessary use of materials that could be use in the war efforts. This included the excessive use of fabric to make clothes. For the Mexican American population this meant giving up their iconic Zoot Suits for something more streamlined and Uncle Sam approved. So when they were seen still sporting their flamboyant suits, it made some people angry. That angry boiled over to a week long attack on any they saw as different and an affront to the US. From his cousin Bobbie Jo loosing her life in a senseless act of violence, to Ken McElroy loosing his life in an act of violence that did make since, this town has had it's fair share of death. So it should not come as a surprise that when 20 year old Branson Perry went missing from his home, the local police believed foul play might have been involved. Then just two years later they thought they were going to get a break in the case, but still to this day Branson has not been found.
