Aged Care – When the Decisions Become Personal
Aug 11, 202639 minS1
You can talk about aged care in theory. But it's very different when it's your mum, your family and suddenly the decisions are yours to make. Following on from Episode 12, where we explored why planning ahead for ageing and aged care matters, Episode 13 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan brings that conversation to life through one family's experience. Jenny Brown and JBS Financial Strategist aged care advice specialist Kaitlin Mifsud are joined by client Julie Hyde, who openly shares what it was like navigating aged care for her mum alongside her sister, Michelle. Julie talks about the moment they realised things had changed, the emotions that came with trying to do the right thing, and the weight of making important decisions for someone you love. Together, Julie, Jenny and Kaitlin explore the guilt, uncertainty and family dynamics that can accompany aged care, as well as what helped bring greater clarity when everything felt overwhelming. It's an honest and deeply personal conversation, but also a reassuring one. Because you don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes the most important thing you can do is start talking before you're forced to make decisions under pressure. Aged care isn't just about care. It's about love, identity, dignity and protecting the choices of someone you love. And perhaps the most important reminder of all: It's never too early to talk. But it can be too late to wait. ✨ Because thriving should be fun… and naps should be epic. Julie Hyde is one of Australia's most compelling keynote speakers on leadership, courage and self-leadership under pressure. When people hear the words aged care, many assume it's something they'll think about later. The reality is that some of the most important decisions about ageing and aged care are made long before they're ever needed. In Episode 12 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan, Jenny Brown is joined by JBS Financial Strategists' aged care advice specialists Kaitlin Mifsud and Peter Folk for a practical and reassuring conversation about planning ahead. Together, they explore why preparing early can help you stay in control of your future, protect your independence and make life easier for the people you love. From starting family conversations and appointing trusted decision-makers to understanding care options, costs and the financial implications, they share practical guidance to help you prepare with confidence rather than urgency. Whether you're thinking about your own future or supporting ageing parents, this episode will help you understand why planning for ageing and aged care isn't just about care, it's about protecting your choices, reducing stress and giving your family greater peace of mind. Because the best time to plan is before life makes the decisions for you. ✨ Because thriving should be fun… and naps should be epic. // Connect with JBS Financial // LinkedIn | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube Whilst all care has been taken in the preparation of this material, no warranty is given in respect of the information provided and accordingly JBS Financial Strategists Pty Ltd, an Australian Financial Services License Holder (N 486674), nor its related entities, employees or agents shall be liable on any ground whatsoever with respect to decisions or actions taken as a result of you acting upon such information.
In Episode 11 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan, Jenny Brown and the JBS Financial team, Warren Hanna and Peter Folk, are here to tackle a topic that's becoming increasingly important for retirees and those approaching retirement. Scams are becoming more sophisticated, more convincing and more personal. And the reality is, they don't just target the vulnerable; they target everyday Australians at moments when they're busy, distracted, travelling, or simply trying to do the right thing. Together, Jenny, Warren and Peter explore why scams happen, the emotional impact they can have beyond the financial loss, and how taking a moment to pause, verify and ask for help can make all the difference. Through real-life stories and practical insights, the team discusses common investment scams, fake "safe accounts", travel-related risks, and simple habits that can help protect both your finances and your confidence. This is a practical, empowering conversation that reminds us that one of the best investments we can make is taking the time to stop, think and ask questions before making important financial decisions.
In Episode 10 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan, Jenny Brown is joined by JBS Financial Strategists business partners Warren Hanna and Peter Folk to explore one of the biggest fears people face in retirement, the fear of running out of money. It's a concern that affects far more than your bank balance. It influences the decisions you make, the experiences you put off, and whether you give yourself permission to enjoy the life you've worked so hard to build. Together, Jenny, Warren and Peter explore why this fear is so common, why many people struggle to shift from a lifetime of saving to confidently spending, and how a well-designed retirement plan can replace uncertainty with clarity. This isn't a conversation about spending more. It's about understanding what gives people the confidence to enjoy retirement without constantly looking over their shoulder. Because the goal isn't simply to make your money last. It's to help your money support the life you want to live.
Beyond the Will...Stories from an Estate Planning Lawyer
Jun 11, 202650 minS1
In Episode 9 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan, Jenny Brown is joined by JBS Financial Strategists business partner Warren Hanna and Estate Planning Lawyer Lav Chhabra to explore a topic that touches every family, how to create an estate plan that truly reflects your wishes, your relationships and your legacy. Following on from our previous conversation about legacy, this episode takes a deeper look at what happens when intentions aren't clearly documented, conversations are delayed, or plans haven't kept pace with life's changes. Together, Jenny, Warren and Lav share real-life examples and insights that highlight an important truth: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to estate planning. Every family is different. Every relationship is different. And every estate plan should reflect those unique circumstances. This is a thoughtful and practical discussion about creating clarity for the people you care about most, reducing stress during difficult times, and ensuring your wishes are understood long before they're needed. Because in the end, a good estate plan isn't just about what you leave behind. It's about making life easier for the people you love. ✨ Because thriving should be fun… and naps should be epic. https://www.perpetuitylegal.com.au/ // Connect with JBS Financial // LinkedIn | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube Whilst all care has been taken in the preparation of this material, no warranty is given in respect of the information provided and accordingly JBS Financial Strategists Pty Ltd, an Australian Financial Services License Holder (N 486674), nor its related entities, employees or agents shall be liable on any ground whatsoever with respect to decisions or actions taken as a result of you acting upon such information.
