  A sermon on Nebuchadnezzar's dream and its interpretation, by David Camera. Application questions: If you could, would you want to know the future? If so, what would you like to know, and what would you rather remain unknown? Beginning in 2:4, the book of Daniel is written in Aramaic, the common language of Babylon. What does this fact tell us about the audience of the book and God’s grace of God to Babylon? Look back to Daniel 1:4 and 17. How did God prepare to reveal His Word in Babylon? Think back over the life of Joseph in Egypt. What are the similarities between Joseph’s situation and Daniel’s? (Genesis 41) How was sending Joseph to Egypt a blessing to Egypt? What does Nebuchadnezzar’s dream reveal about God’s plan for the future? How is this “good news” for Babylon? How was this good news for God’s people in exile in Babylon? How can we draw comfort from this truth as Christians today? In this episode, how is Daniel a model for Christians today? Where did he receive the word for Babylon, and what did he do with it? Read 1 Peter 4:7-11. What are we called to do as Christians? What is right and wrong about Nebuchadnezzar’s response? (consider also what he does in chapter 3) People have crazy dreams all the time. We also have common dreams like falling or our teeth falling out! Should we see dreams as a means God is using to reveal himself to us today? (cr. Hebrews 1:1-2) What are the opportunities you have to bring good news to those around you? What aspects of the gospel are you tempted to dial down if any? How can the courage of Daniel inspire us? Can we expect to be honored by the world like Daniel for speaking the gospel?

  A sermon kicking off our new series on the book of Daniel, by David Camera. Application questions: What are the key aspects of who we are that we use to explain our identity? (e.g.: where we are from etc.) Who were Daniel and his friends before they were exiled to Babylon? How are they described in the text What had Daniel and his 3 friends just experienced? Who is responsible for the defeat of Jerusalem according to the text? Read Lev. 26:14-16; 31-32. Why did the exile occur? Look at Isaiah 39:5-7. What is said about the exile here? Why did the King of Babylon seek to assimilate these boys, with a new name, new education and gifts of his own food? Daniel and his friends are now exiles living in a foreign land. How is our situation as Christians similar? (cr. Hebrews 11:13-16; 1 Peter 1:1) If you were Daniel and his 3 friends, what temptations would you be facing and what questions would you be asking? What aspects of who we are as Christians are central to our identity and do not change because of our circumstances? Where do you feel the world trying to “assimilate” you into its kingdom? (cr. Romans 12:1-2) How do we resist the conforming efforts of the world?
