Lucas and Luna sit across a negotiation table, offer letter between them. This isn't about bluffing or 'asking for the moon' — it's about the specific mechanics of compensation negotiation: how to read a total compensation package (base salary, equity, bonuses, benefits), when and how to counter an offer without alienating the employer, and the data behind successful salary requests. Lucas walks through real-world numbers from Payscale, Glassdoor, and industry surveys, while Luna challenges assumptions — what if the company says no? How do you negotiate when you're early in your career? They examine case studies: a marketing manager who negotiated a 15% higher base by citing market data, a software engineer who traded salary for additional equity and a four-day week, and a recent graduate who secured a signing bonus by delaying her start date. The conversation also covers handling counter-offers from a current employer — when to stay, when to walk, and how to ensure the relationship is

How to Negotiate Salary When the Offer Is Too Low
Aug 18, 20268 minS4
In this episode of Salary Negotiation with Fexingo, Lucas and Luna tackle a common but tricky scenario: what to do when the initial salary offer is well below what you expected. Using a recent example from the tech sector—where a mid-level product manager was offered $95,000 for a role that typically pays $120,000 to $130,000—they break down the anatomy of a lowball offer. They discuss why employers sometimes start low, how to respond without burning bridges, and the specific language to use in your counteroffer. They also cover the importance of anchoring, the power of asking for a range, and when it's worth walking away. With practical scripts and strategic advice, this episode gives you a clear playbook for turning a disappointing offer into a negotiation win—or at least a respectful no. Tune in to learn how to handle low offers with confidence and skill. #SalaryNegotiation #LowballOffer #CounterOffer #NegotiationTactics #SalaryNegotiation #Careers #JobOffer #Compensation #SalaryStrategy #NegotiationSkills #ProductManager #TechSalary #SalaryAdvice #CareerAdvice #JobSearch #InterviewTips #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How to Negotiate Salary When the Employer Says the Budget Is Fixed
Aug 17, 20268 minS4
When a hiring manager says the salary budget is fixed, most candidates assume negotiation is over. But 'fixed budget' is rarely a hard stop — it's often a constraint with exceptions. In this episode, Lucas and Luna break down what 'fixed' actually means in corporate budgeting, how to test the boundary without damaging the offer, and the exact language to use to move from 'no movement' to a better package. They walk through a real-world example: a marketing manager in Chicago offered $95,000 by a mid-size tech firm that claimed the band was non-negotiable. Instead of accepting or walking away, she used a two-step technique — first asking about flexibility, then re-framing around total compensation — and ended up with a $10,000 signing bonus and an extra week of vacation. The episode covers the psychology of budget language, the difference between hard and soft constraints, and the surprising power of asking for non-salary items when the base truly cannot move. If you've ever been told 'take it or leave it,' this episode gives you a playbook. #SalaryNegotiation #FixedBudget #JobOffer #Careers #Compensation #NegotiationTactics #CounterOffer #HR #TotalCompensation #SigningBonus #VacationTime #MarketingManager #ChicagoJobs #TechJobs #CareerAdvice #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #WorkLife Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How to Negotiate a Salary When the Offer Is for a Startup
Aug 16, 202611 minS4
In this episode of Salary Negotiation with Fexingo, Lucas and Luna dive into the unique challenges of negotiating salary at a startup. Using a real example of a fintech startup offering a candidate a mix of cash and equity, they break down how to evaluate a total compensation package when the base salary is lower than at a corporate giant. The discussion covers the difference between a startup's 'high risk, high reward' equity and a public company's RSUs, and how to think about the probability of an exit or IPO. Lucas explains the 'paper math' — how to estimate the value of your options using the company's latest 409A valuation, and why you should ask about the strike price, the number of shares outstanding, and the vesting schedule. Luna shares a cautionary tale about a friend who took a 30 percent pay cut for a startup that never took off. They also discuss when it makes sense to trade base salary for a larger equity grant, and the importance of negotiating a severance clause or a higher cash bonus to compensate for the risk. The episode concludes with a practical framework for deciding how much salary to sacrifice for equity, based on your personal risk tolerance and financial runway. #StartupSalary #EquityNegotiation #SalaryNegotiation #CareerAdvice #Compensation #StartupJobs #NegotiationTips #CareerGrowth #JobOffer #EquityCompensation #StartupLife #TechJobs #Finance #Careers #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Fexingo #SalaryTalk Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How to Negotiate a Pay Raise When the Company Is Struggling
Aug 15, 20269 minS4
In this episode of Salary Negotiation with Fexingo, Lucas and Luna dig into a tough scenario: asking for a raise when the company is cutting costs. They look at a real-world case in the retail sector where a store manager successfully negotiated a 7 percent base salary increase despite a company-wide hiring freeze. Along the way, they break down the three-part strategy that worked: framing the request around business impact, timing it around a specific operational win, and offering flexibility on the form of compensation, like a one-time retention bonus instead of a permanent raise. Lucas explains why the key is to make your manager look good and to give them an easy yes. They also share the conversation script that unlocked the raise, and the one mistake that can sink your chances. If you're facing a tight budget or a struggling industry, this episode gives you a realistic path to getting paid more without leaving. #SalaryNegotiation #PayRaise #CostCutting #CareerAdvice #NegotiationSkills #Compensation #BusinessImpact #RetentionBonus #HiringFreeze #RetailManagement #CareerGrowth #NegotiationTactics #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Careers #WorkplaceStrategy #SalaryIncrease #ToughNegotiation Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo

Listeners will learn how to confidently ask for more when the initial number is underwhelming, without burning bridges.
