Should you watch this? with The Popcorn Priest

Join me, The Popcorn Priest and my guests as we talk about why you should or shouldn't see what we just did. I used to be a projectionist at a movie theatre. While there, besides eating many many bags of free popcorn and just as much soda, I screened, talked about, and debated movies with other movie fans like myself. I am not there anymore, however the screening, talking and debating movies lives on in this podcast. We screen new and old movies, then talk about what we like and what we didn't like. It's laid back and most of the time informative but always an adventure.

310-Better Off Dead (1985) PT1 | The Weirdest ’80s Teen Comedy You Need to See

  Sep 29, 202643 min

Dr. 2$ Dare joins The Popcorn Priest for Part 1 of a two-part look at Better Off Dead , the wonderfully bizarre 1985 comedy starring John Cusack. We dig into the film’s dark humor, cartoon-like visual gags, endlessly quotable dialogue, and the way director Savage Steve Holland twists familiar teen-movie tropes into something completely his own. We also talk about Holland’s animation background, the cast, the meaning of a PG rating in the ’80s, whether younger audiences would still find the movie funny, and some sharply divided audience reviews. If you like cult comedies, weird ’80s movies, or John Cusack at peak teenage chaos, this one is for you. #BetterOffDead #JohnCusack #80sComedy #CultClassic #MovieReview

  308 – The Odyssey (2026) PT 1 | Spoiler-Free Review, IMAX Spectacle & Is the Hate Overblown?

  Aug 18, 202643 min

Christopher Nolan has taken on one of the oldest stories ever told—and naturally, we needed two episodes to talk about it. The Popcorn Poseidon is joined by Dr. Dare to review The Odyssey , Nolan’s massive 2026 adaptation of Homer’s epic. In Part 1, we keep things mostly spoiler-light and answer the most important question: Should you watch this movie? We break down five reasons to see The Odyssey , why IMAX matters, Ludwig Göransson’s incredible score, the enormous practical production, and why some of the online backlash feels completely overblown. Then it’s time to Review the Reviews , where 10/10 declarations of “god tier filmmaking” collide headfirst with one-star complaints about pacing, acting, music and apparently everything else Nolan dared put on screen. We also dig into the absurd scale of the production—including full-size sets, planted olive trees, live sheep, Trojan horses being dragged through the dunes and practical effects that look so good you’ll swear they’re CGI. And whenever something seems strange? Don’t worry. It was probably as Nolan intended. #TheOdyssey #ChristopherNolan #TheOdysseyMovie #MattDamon #Nolan #IMAX #LudwigGoransson #MovieReview #FilmReview #MoviePodcast #GreekMythology #Homer #ShouldYouWatchThis #PopcornPriest #ThePopcornPoseidon
