*RECYCLED EPISODE* Episode 122: Christa Pike // The Youngest Woman Sentenced to Death

  Sep 30, 20261h 26m

Send us Fan Mail Before we get into today’s episode, we wanted to take a moment to explain why we’re bringing this particular case back to you. We originally covered the case of Christa Pike some time ago, but with Pike’s execution currently scheduled to take place at 9am MST on September 30, 2026, in Tennessee, we felt it was important to revisit the episode and make it available again. Christa Pike was convicted of the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, a case that has remained in the public eye for decades. Pike was sentenced to death and has spent the last 30 years on death row. So, before we begin, we want to acknowledge that this episode discusses a real person, a real victim, and a case that has affected many lives for decades. Our intention in revisiting it isn't to sensationalize what happened, but to provide the story and the context surrounding a case that is once again making headlines. With that said, let's go back to the beginning and revisit the case of Christa Pike. Christa Pike is an American woman who became the youngest woman sentenced to death in the United States during the modern era. Born on March 10, 1976, in West Virginia, Pike had a troubled upbringing marked by instability and abuse. At 18, while attending a Job Corps program in Tennessee, she murdered a fellow student, Colleen Slemmer, in 1995, in what was described as a premeditated killing fueled by jealousy and obsession. Pike and her accomplices lured Slemmer to a secluded area, where she was brutally tortured and killed. Pike kept a piece of the victim's skull as a trophy, which became a key piece of evidence during her trial. In 1996, Pike was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death by electrocution. Episode 195: Friends Like These: The Betrayal of Skylar Neese

  Sep 11, 20261h 16mS1

Send us Fan Mail On the night of July 5, 2012, 16-year-old honor student Skylar Neese slipped out of her bedroom window in Star City, West Virginia, climbed into a waiting sedan, and disappeared into the night. Initially dismissed by authorities as a typical teenage runaway, Skylar’s disappearance quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare as days stretched into weeks with zero contact. At the center of the frantic search were her two inseparable best friends, Shelia Eddy and Rachel Shoaf. Shelia spent hours comforting Skylar’s grief-stricken parents, helping hand out missing-person flyers, and posting emotional pleas across social media. But as investigators began pulling cell tower records, dissecting security footage, and uncovering erratic online posts, the girls’ alibis started to unravel. Six months later, a psychological breakdown triggered a confession that shattered the tight-knit community: Skylar hadn’t run away. Her two closest confidantes had lured her into a remote patch of Pennsylvania woods with a premeditated plan, murder weapons, and a calculated count of three. When asked why they did it, the motive proved far more terrifying than any crime of passion. In this episode, we unpack the timeline of Skylar’s disappearance, the digital breadcrumbs that cracked the case wide open, the chilling coldness of adolescent psychopathy, and the lasting legacy of "Skylar’s Law" that reformed missing-child alerts nationwide.
