Sound Screen Episode 315: Interview with Hamburg-based duo, Ivy Flindt
The success stories of many artists are often told as tales of grit and skill. What is often overlooked, however, is the presence of luck. Yes, it is about having all the right ingredients to make beautiful music and then finding yourself in the right place at the right time for a catalyst to emerge, putting everything in motion on a path to glory. For Cate Martin and Micha Holland of Hamburg-based duo Ivy Flindt, they are right in the middle of this amazing storyline. After meeting in music school, the duo formed an artistic bond and began writing, playing, and producing songs destined for a wider audience. This is where a gig in northern Scotland became the spark that would shine a light on their immense talent for all the world to see. It was in this specific place, at this precise time, that they met Grammy Award-winning Coldplay producer Danton Supple, who loved their music so much that he proposed producing the duo’s next project, which turned out to be the EP Sphinx . There is ample evidence that lightning only strikes once. For Cate and Micha, however, another flash of luck came that same night, for it was also there that they met Sat Bisla, founder of one of the world’s top music business conferences, MUSEXPO. This meeting, just like the one with Supple, opened a new door for the duo: sync licensing. Flash-forward to today: Ivy Flindt’s debut EP is now in APM Music’s catalog under Kinetik.
