Episode 39 "You Don't Have to Know How This Ends."
You Don’t Have to Know How This Ends We spend so much of our lives wanting certainty. We want to know that if we put in the work, everything is going to pay off. We want to know that the goal we’re chasing is possible, that the risk we’re taking is worth it, and that the road we’re walking is actually leading somewhere. But life rarely gives us those guarantees. In this episode, “You Don’t Have to Know How This Ends,” we explore what it means to keep moving forward even when you have no idea how things are going to turn out. Sometimes the things we care about most become heavier the longer we pursue them. In the beginning, there’s curiosity. We simply think, Why not? Let’s find out. We don’t know enough yet to create all the reasons something might go wrong. Then we learn more. We begin to understand how difficult the goal actually is. Expectations appear. Timelines appear. Comparisons start creeping in. Suddenly we’re no longer asking, I wonder what I’m capable of? Instead, we start asking, What if I’m not capable of this? That’s where fear begins asking for guarantees. The problem is, nobody can promise us how the story ends. You can prepare. You can work hard. You can make good decisions and give yourself the best opportunity possible. But eventually, every meaningful journey asks you to step into the unknown. And maybe that’s okay. Saying “I don’t know how this ends” is not the same as saying “this is going to end badly.” Those are completely different things. Uncertainty doesn’t automatically mean failure. Sometimes it simply means the story hasn’t been written yet. Instead of trying to carry the weight of the entire future, maybe we can bring our attention back to something much smaller: Do I still want to take the next step? If you’re writing something and you don’t know whether anyone will ever read it, write the next page. If you’re building something and you don’t know whether it will succeed, take the next step. If you’re training toward a goal and you don’t know whether you’ll reach it, do today’s work. You don’t have to solve your entire future today. And maybe the ending isn’t even what gives the journey its meaning. Maybe it’s everything that happens along the way—the times you struggle, the times you surprise yourself, the lessons you learn, the people you meet, and the person you slowly become. Because even when you finally reach one goal, life continues. There is another beginning. Another unknown. Another opportunity to find out. So if you can’t see how your story ends right now, that doesn’t mean you’re lost. Maybe you’re simply still living it. You don’t need certainty to keep going. Sometimes you just need enough courage and curiosity to say: I still want to find out.
