Sweden School Sword Attack Leaves One Dead | Sydney News
Aug 21, 20261 min
A horrific school stabbing in Sweden has left one dead and several injured, including two seriously wounded teens. The attacker, armed with a sword, struck at Brinellskolan just after 2 PM yesterday — turning what should’ve been a routine school day into chaos. Police have arrested the suspect and are investigating, while authorities locked down nearby schools and set up a crisis center for victims and families. Prime Minister vows full support as Sweden grapples with this brutal reminder of how vulnerable schools remain to violence. Elite Schools and Rising Teen Abuse | Sydney News
Aug 21, 20263 min
Shocking allegations are surfacing from elite Sydney schools, with a former Scots College student revealing how systemic misogyny went unchecked during his education — now echoed in recent rape charges against teenage boys. Despite national consent education mandates sparked by Chanel Contos’s advocacy, a 2024 study reveals teens have become the most common perpetrators of sexual violence against youth — a disturbing trend fueled by social media algorithms pushing misogynistic content and early exposure to violent pornography. Politicians are sounding the alarm, calling for urgent action on platform regulation and institutional accountability as society grapples with how to protect young people — especially boys — from harmful influences shaping their behavior. Preserving Melbourne's Italian Legacy | Sydney News
Aug 21, 20262 min
Melbourne’s Little Italy is rallying to protect Borsari’s Corner, a historic Lygon Street landmark honoring Nino Borsari — Olympic gold medalist, “King” of Italians in Carlton, and a beacon for post-war migrants. Once interned as an “enemy alien,” he returned to Melbourne with his wife Fanny to build a thriving emporium selling Italian goods. The iconic 1940s neon sign, proudly declaring him “ex-Olympic champion” (a title he later corrected), now symbolizes resilience and community spirit. Heritage Victoria backs the heritage listing, recognizing Nino and Fanny’s role in shaping Melbourne’s social fabric — and preserving their legacy for future generations. ICAC’s Moment of Doubt | Sydney News
Aug 21, 20262 min
A major ICAC hearing has sparked controversy after a former minister, David Elliott, alleged that developer Jean Nassif orchestrated a smear campaign—including bribery plots involving the former premier’s brother—to influence his removal from a key cabinet role. While Elliott faces no charges himself, his unchallenged testimony—marked by dramatic flair and political implications—has left Dominic Perrottet in an uncomfortable spotlight. Critics warn the ICAC’s handling of the claim undermines its credibility, raising alarms about how sensitive allegations are managed outside formal court settings. Australia's Weak Gambling Ad Ban | Sydney News
Aug 21, 20262 min
Australia’s government just passed new gambling ad laws — but critics call them weak and half-hearted. While the same government boldly banned social media for kids under 16 and made foreign tech pay for local news, its gambling reforms fell short: only three ads per hour between 5 AM and 8:30 PM, with loopholes that leave kids exposed during late-night sports like State of Origin. The inquiry led by late MP Peta Murphy demanded a total ban, warning gambling ads are “grooming children” and costing Aussies more than any other nation — yet the final law relies on self-regulation by industry, which experts liken to letting Dracula run a blood bank. Small wins include banning ads on jerseys and celebrity endorsements, plus a “triple lock” system to verify users are over 18. But the real story? The government prioritized protecting TV networks and sports leagues — whose revenue depends on gambling ads — over truly stopping harm. Progress was made, but at the cost of effectiveness.
