Carney's Secret Tax Hike?
Aug 19, 202615 min
A new Fraser Institute study examines what could happen if Ottawa eventually reduced federal transfers to the provinces. The result could leave provinces scrambling to replace billions of dollars in funding—forcing difficult choices between higher taxes, spending cuts, or larger deficits. Today we break down the numbers, revisit the Chrétien transfer cuts of the 1990s, and explain why many Canadians may not realize who's actually paying when governments shift costs between Ottawa and the provinces. Could your premier end up taking the political blame for decisions made in Ottawa? #cdnpoli #canada #canadiannews #canadiapolitics #canadian #taxation #canadatax #canadataxes #canadataxation #liberal #conservative #markcarney #incometax #healthcare #canadalife #politicalcommentary

As Canada faces one of the most important trade negotiations in decades, inflation rises again and questions grow over the government's economic performance, another wave of headlines has suddenly shifted attention toward Pierre Poilievre's leadership. In this episode of Tap the Maple , we examine the timing, compare the headlines, and ask whether Canada's political media is focusing on the stories that matter most to Canadians. Topics include: Canada–U.S. trade negotiations August 19 tariff deadline July 2026 inflation report Mark Carney's Italy trip Pierre Poilievre leadership stories Anonymous Conservative MP reports Canadian media analysis Political accountability Canadian economy Trade and inflation #cdnpoli #canada #canadian #canadalife #pierrepoilievre #media #mainstreammedia #leftist #liberal #markcarney #canadiannews #canadaews #canadiapolitics #conservativenews #conservatives #canadianpolitics #news #politics #political #politcalcommentary #tapthemaple #bakesonthings #chrisbaker
Canadians Home Equity AT RISK! Carney's DANGEROUS Appointment Should Terrify Us
Aug 17, 202624 min
Mark Carney has appointed former CMHC CEO Evan Siddall as the inaugural chair of Build Canada Homes, and for many Canadians that appointment raises important questions. Years ago, Siddall publicly discussed housing wealth, intergenerational inequality and Canada's principal residence tax treatment. CMHC also funded a Housing Wealth and Generational Inequity Solutions Lab that sparked debate over the future of housing taxation. Today, Siddall is back at the centre of federal housing policy. Should Canadian homeowners be paying closer attention? In this episode of Tap the Maple, we examine Siddall's own speeches, his history with Mark Carney, the CMHC documents, and why millions of homeowners may want answers about the future of the principal residence exemption. If you own a home, or hope to one day, this is a conversation you won't want to miss. #cdnpoli #canada #canadian #caandalife #homeequity #homebuyer #mortgage #homeowner #taxes #tax #markcarney #realestate #realestatemarket #realestateinvestor #realestateinvesting #housingmarket #housing #liberal #conservative #canadianpolitics #canadapolitics #canadanews #canadiannews #canadavlog #canadavlogs #evansidall #tapthemaple #bakesonthings #polticalnews #politics #news
'Canada Strong Fund' Will Swallow Your Money Whole and Never Give it Back
Aug 16, 202618 min
Did Mark Carney already test the blueprint for Canada's new $25 billion Canada Strong Fund before bringing it here? Britain created a remarkably similar National Wealth Fund after recommendations from a taskforce that included Mark Carney. Today, critics argue the UK experiment has struggled to deliver on its promises, raising serious questions about whether Canada is about to repeat the same mistakes. In this episode of Tap the Maple , we examine the evidence, compare Britain's experience with Canada's new sovereign wealth fund, and ask whether taxpayers are being asked to shoulder risks that private investors won't. We'll also explain why Norway's world-famous sovereign wealth fund is fundamentally different, why the phrase "crowding in private investment" matters, and why every Canadian should understand who ultimately bears the financial risk if these investments don't perform. Is this nation building... or a $25 billion gamble? Watch and decide for yourself. #cdnpoli #canada #canadian #canadastrong #fund #investing #canadastrongfund #canadianpolitics #canadanews #canadalife #canadainvestment #canadavlog #canadavlogs #canadanews #canadianeconomy #economy #wealthfund #wealth #resources #norway #uk #britain #markcarney #liberal #conservative
Mark Carney's Vanishing Act: I Tried To Find Another Leader In History Who Did This
Aug 15, 202620 min
Mark Carney is in Italy while Canada faces active wildfires and one of the most important Canada–U.S. trade negotiations in decades. That raised one simple question for me: Has another world leader ever gone on a foreign vacation while their country faced both a major national emergency and its biggest trade negotiations? I went looking through history, and the closest comparison I found was Australia's Scott Morrison during the Black Summer bushfires. The comparison raises a broader question about leadership, priorities, and what Canadians should reasonably expect from a prime minister during a national challenge. In this episode of Tap the Maple , we examine the historical precedent, compare different leadership standards, and ask whether the timing of this trip sends the right message to Canadians and to Washington. Do you think the timing was appropriate? #cdnpoli #canada #canadian #canadalife #markcarney #italy #tariffs #donaldtrump #trade #pierrepoilievre #cbc #ctv #wildfires #bc #britishcolumbia #tradewar #caandatradewar #america #american #us #usa #tradedeal #negotiations #carneyvacation #canadiannews #canadanes #canadianpolitics #canadapolitics #uspolitics #ustrade #americannews #liberal #conservative #tapthemaple #bakesonthings
