About this Podcast:
What does it actually take to get through the hard part — physically, mentally, or both? The Aid Station is a conversation-driven podcast exploring the real, unpolished intersection of endurance, competition, and mental health. Episodes fall into one of two ongoing threads. In The Grind Line , host Abe sits down with thru-hikers, ultra-runners, powerlifters, and competitors of all kinds to talk honestly about what actually gets them through — not the highlight-reel version, but the low points, the moments motivation ran out, and what took over when it did. In At the Station , the conversation shifts to the professionals: therapists, medical experts, coaches, and trainers who work directly with the psychology of performance, recovery, and resilience, breaking down what's actually happening beneath the surface of a hard effort. Every episode closes with the same question, put to every guest regardless of their background: when attempting to do hard things, it's common advice to "know your why" — so what do they actually think about that? The answers vary more than you'd expect, and that's kind of the point. The Aid Station is hosted by Abe, a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Boise, Idaho, currently working toward LCPC licensure, with a clinical focus on anxiety, depression, addiction, identity, and relationship strain. His approach draws on attachment-based and family systems thinking — and a genuine, ongoing curiosity about why some people keep going when it would be so much easier to stop. Whether you're training for your first race, sitting with a client who is, or just trying to understand your own relationship to pushing your limits, this show is built for the conversation that happens after the finish line — or sometimes, well before it.
