  Elizabeth was a practicing Catholic when she had an abortion in 2010. The decision left her in what she described as a “very deep, dark place.” Years later, while pregnant with her third child after choosing life in two subsequent crisis pregnancies, Elizabeth knew it was time to face what had happened. She took her 4-year-old daughter with her and entered the confessional terrified. “When I left, it was like the whole world had lifted off my back,” Elizabeth told Deacon Patrick Conley and guest Fr. Marc Lenneman on The Inner Life . That encounter with God’s mercy became the beginning of a beautiful reversion. Elizabeth promised God that if He ever asked her to give her child a voice or defend life, she would say yes. Today, that promise has become a ministry. Elizabeth travels across the country advocating for unborn children and their mothers, raising money for pregnancy resource centers, and lobbying in Washington. Her testimony offers a powerful reminder for anyone afraid to approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation. “Nothing – nothing – is capable of outdoing the love of God shown to us in the confessional,” Patrick said. No sin places us beyond God’s mercy when we turn back to Him with contrition. As Elizabeth discovered, confession does more than confront the past. Through the sacrament, Christ offers forgiveness, grace, and the possibility of beginning again.   Are They Actually Marriageable? (Marriage Unhindered)

  Dating can come with plenty of excitement, attraction, and strong emotions. But Doug Hinderer says there is a bigger question to ask before considering marriage: Is this person actually marriageable? On Marriage Unhindered , Doug reflected on advice from Dr. Harry Benson, who encourages singles to date people with whom they could realistically imagine a future. “If you can’t see any kind of future with them, then you are wasting your time or probably setting yourself up for heartache,” Benson wrote. Doug explained that attraction and infatuation cannot carry a lifelong marriage. Marriage requires taking the long view and paying attention to the virtues a potential spouse possesses. Research discussed by Benson found that qualities such as honesty, kindness, friendship, interest, politeness, and empathy rank highly when young adults consider what they want in a spouse. “In a word, virtue,” Doug said. “If you wanna become a marriageable person, become a person of virtue.” And that discernment works both ways. Rather than focusing exclusively on finding the right person, singles should work on becoming someone capable of giving themselves faithfully in marriage. For Doug, three qualities stand out: kindness, friendship, and sacrifice. Kindness means treating the person you love with care, especially during conflict. Friendship means genuinely enjoying one another, sharing life, and creating the safety to be yourself. Sacrifice means developing a spirit of service that places your spouse’s needs before your own. “Marriage is a matter of service,” Doug explained. “My life is one spent in service to you.” Chemistry may begin a relationship, but virtue helps prepare a couple for a lifelong covenant.   Blessed Fulton Sheen’s Message for Our Time (The Drew Mariani Show)

  The Church can now publicly honor one of America’s most beloved Catholic evangelists: Blessed Fulton Sheen. On The Drew Mariani Show , Drew spoke with Monsignor Jason Gray, executive director of the Fulton Sheen Foundation, about what Sheen’s beatification means and what could come next. For decades, Sheen used radio and television to proclaim the Gospel. Now, Msgr. Gray says his beatification gives the faithful a new opportunity to seek his intercession and rediscover his teaching. The foundation is already examining several possible miracles that could potentially advance Sheen’s cause for canonization. Among the reported cases are children who recovered after suffering a lack of oxygen and a possible healing from stage 4 cancer. The Church will ultimately determine whether any qualifies as a miracle. Meanwhile, plans are underway for the “Sheen Experience” in Peoria, Illinois. Located in Sheen’s former high school, the immersive museum will allow visitors to walk through different stages of his life and encounter his pioneering work in radio, television, teaching, and evangelization. But perhaps Sheen’s greatest legacy is something every Catholic can imitate. Msgr. Gray reflected on the enduring significance of Sheen’s famous program, Life Is Worth Living . Sheen wanted people to know that they were created by God, made to love Him, and made to be loved by Him. That conviction was sustained by prayer. Despite his demanding schedule, Sheen was deeply devoted to making a daily Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament. Not everyone can preach to enormous audiences or host a television program. But everyone can pray. “Pray in your church, pray at home, pray where you can, but grow in prayer,” Msgr. Gray said. It may be the simplest way to carry Blessed Fulton Sheen’s legacy forward: spend more time with the God who makes life worth living.   The Conversion Story of Tammy Peterson (The Mark Swartzberg Show)

  At 58 years old, Tammy Peterson received devastating news: She had a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer and was told she had less than a year to live. Speaking with Mark on The Mark Swartzberg Show , Tammy recalled returning home and telling her son, Julian. When she saw the tears in his eyes, something changed. “I felt the weight of the world lift off my shoulders,” she said. Looking at her son and experiencing the depth of their love, Tammy felt herself filled with something she would later recognize as the Holy Spirit. Her response was simple: “Julian, only God knows when I’m going to die. And I said, we will go forward with gratitude, accepting help, and that’s it.” That surrender was only the beginning. After complications sent Tammy back to the hospital, her Catholic friend Queenie Yu visited with a rosary blessed by the pope. Tammy admitted she didn’t know how to pray the Rosary, so Queenie offered to teach her. She returned every day for five weeks. As Tammy prayed, each decade became an opportunity to reflect on the people she loved. She prayed for her deceased mother, her children, hospital workers, and political leaders. Slowly, her prayer expanded. “I could make it local and at the same time universal,” Tammy explained. “I could pray for my mother and all mothers.” Later, Orthodox Christian artist Jonathan Pageau joined Tammy on her podcast to discuss the mysteries of the Rosary. After one recording, he quietly told her, “You gotta go to church.” She took those words seriously. As more Catholics entered her life and she encountered the teaching of Blessed Fulton Sheen, Tammy found herself increasingly drawn toward Catholicism. Eventually, a priest began catechizing her while she traveled. When Tammy returned to Toronto, she entered the Catholic Church. Today, the word Catholics so often use for conversion has taken on a deeper meaning for her: home.
