2 Kings 1 – Ahaziah’s Rebellion, Elijah’s Prophecy, and the Fire of God | Bible Study
Welcome to today’s Bible study. In this episode of 2 Kings 1 (KJV), we begin our verse-by-verse journey through the book of 2 Kings as King Ahaziah turns to a false god instead of seeking the LORD after suffering an injury. This chapter explores idolatry, prophecy, judgment, obedience, God's authority, and the courage to speak His truth. Ahaziah sends messengers to inquire of Baalzebub concerning his recovery, but Elijah confronts them with a message from the LORD. The king then sends soldiers to seize Elijah, but God demonstrates His authority over those who oppose His prophet. After two captains and their men are destroyed by fire, a third captain approaches Elijah with humility and asks for mercy. Elijah goes with him and delivers God's judgment directly to Ahaziah, who dies according to the word of the LORD. Through this chapter, we see the danger of seeking answers apart from God and the certainty of His Word. Elijah's ministry also reminds us that God's authority cannot be manipulated or resisted without consequence. Together, we will study this chapter verse-by-verse, exploring its historical context, theological depth, and spiritual lessons about idolatry, obedience, prophecy, judgment, humility, God's authority, and trusting the LORD.
