America's Identity Crisis: When Patriotism Became Controversial EP127
Growing up in Africa, I learned about America through American textbooks long before I ever met an American. I was taught about the Constitution, the Founding Fathers, Independence Day, patriotism, & the American Dream. The impression I got was simple: Americans could disagree about politics, but they still believed in America. Then I watched America change. In this episode, I explore why patriotism has become increasingly controversial in some public debates, why national identity is now fiercely contested, & what July 4th reveals about the deeper questions America is asking itself. More importantly, I ask whether this is uniquely American or whether every nation will eventually face the same struggle over identity, belonging, & what holds a society together. This isn't just a conversation about America. It's a conversation about what keeps any nation alive.
