Lucas and Luna explore the science, psychology, and economics of workplace exhaustion. Each episode picks a single dimension of burnout — the role of cortisol spikes in decision-making, how open-office layouts drain cognitive reserves, the hidden costs of presenteeism on long-term productivity, or why the gig economy's flexibility often masks chronic overwork. They cite real studies — like the 2023 Gallup State of the Global Workforce report showing 44% of employees experienced a lot of stress — and name companies that have redesigned roles to reduce attrition, from Buffer's four-day workweek to Microsoft Japan's 40% productivity gain. Lucas brings the macroeconomic lens: how burnout costs the U.S. economy an estimated $300 billion annually in lost productivity and healthcare. Luna grounds the conversation in individual recovery tactics, from boundary-setting frameworks to the evidence behind 'recovery experiences' (psychological detachment, relaxation, mastery, and control). How Burnout Blunts Your Workday Ambition
Aug 19, 20267 minS4
In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore a subtle but telling symptom of burnout: the slow fade of ambition during the workday. They break down the psychology of 'ambition suppression'—why chronic stress flattens drive, how it differs from simple laziness or disengagement, and the real-world case of a marketing manager who stopped pitching ideas. They also get into the neuroscience of dopamine and cortisol, the difference between healthy ambition and performative hustle, and practical ways to rebuild momentum without adding more pressure. If you've ever caught yourself thinking 'I just don't care anymore' at 3 PM, this episode offers a grounded look at what's happening and what might help. #Burnout #WorkplaceExhaustion #CareerReset #AmbitionLoss #WorkplaceWellbeing #MentalHealthAtWork #SustainableCareers #Dopamine #Cortisol #BurnoutRecovery #WorkLifeBalance #CareerAdvice #Productivity #WorkplaceCulture #CareerPodcast #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Careers Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In this episode of The Burnout Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore a rarely discussed consequence of workplace exhaustion: how burnout quietly rewrites your relationship with power. They anchor the conversation in a 2024 Harvard Business Review survey of 2,300 professionals which found that over 60 percent of chronically exhausted workers reported becoming more passive in decisions, avoiding confrontation, and deferring to others even when they disagreed. The hosts break down the psychology behind this shift, from the depletion of self-regulatory resources to the fear of conflict when you're running on empty. They discuss how burnout doesn't just drain your energy; it reshapes your sense of agency, making you less likely to advocate for yourself, negotiate, or take a stand. Through practical examples and a candid exchange, they explore the difference between healthy delegation and learned helplessness, and offer strategies to recognize and rebuild your sense of power without burning out further. If you've ever felt like you've lost your voice at work, this episode offers a compassionate look at why that happens and how to begin reclaiming it. #Burnout #PowerDynamics #WorkplaceExhaustion #CareerPodcast #Recovery #SustainableCareers #SelfAdvocacy #Negotiation #Agency #WorkplacePsychology #Leadership #BurnoutRecovery #CareerGrowth #WorkLifeBalance #ProfessionalDevelopment #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Careers Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo

With real-world examples like the 'three-item rule' and the 'closed list' technique, they offer concrete advice for rebuilding trust with your daily planning. In this episode of The Burnout Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore how after-hours emailing quietly rewires your relationship with your evenings and your sense of professional obligation. They dig into the 'always-on' norm, the psychological toll of anticipatory stress, and what the data says about recovery time. Using the example of a mid-career manager who started setting a hard cutoff at 7 p.m., they break down why the compulsion to check one more message is rarely about urgency and almost always about anxiety. They also touch on the role of organizational culture — how leaders can normalize response times without mandating them — and share practical micro-boundaries that actually stick. By the end, you'll have a clearer picture of why that 9 p.m. reply costs more than you think, and how to reclaim your evenings without damaging your reputation. How Burnout Changes Your Relationship with Your Side Hustle
Aug 15, 20269 minS4
In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore how burnout can quietly corrupt what was once a source of joy and extra income: the side hustle. They break down the phenomenon known as 'hustle culture hangover,' where an activity meant to relieve financial pressure becomes another source of exhaustion. Through the story of a graphic designer who turned her Etsy shop into a second job she dreaded, they examine the signs that a passion project has crossed into obligation. They discuss the concept of 'passion debt,' the psychological cost of monetizing a hobby, and the 'side hustle paradox' — where the extra money doesn't compensate for the lost rest. With practical advice on setting boundaries, reevaluating the purpose of a side hustle, and even stepping back without guilt, this episode offers a thoughtful look at how to protect your energy and your wallet.
