Lucas and Luna examine private equity through the lens of actual deals — roll-ups in HVAC, veterinary clinics, and funeral services; buy-and-build strategies; and the mechanics of leveraged buyouts. Each episode dissects a specific transaction, from sourcing to exit, using real numbers, term sheets, and public filings. The show serves founders weighing an offer, analysts building models, and investors tracking the industry. Expect critical discussions on valuation multiples, earnouts, debt covenants, and the cultural friction between PE operators and portfolio-company management. Lucas, a journalist with a decade covering dealmaking, guides the numbers; Luna, an engaged interlocutor, presses on execution risk and founder psychology. Together they ask: What separates a value-destroying roll-up from a platform that compounds for a decade? No hype, no jargon — just the tradecraft of buying and scaling businesses.#PrivateEquity #LBO #RollUp #BuyAndBuild #PE #DueDiligence #Valuation #Merge

Pet Cremation Roll-Ups Are the New Quiet PE Play
Aug 18, 202612 minS4
Private equity has quietly consolidated vets, groomers, and even pet food makers. But the newest frontier is pet cremation — a fragmented, emotionally fraught, and surprisingly lucrative corner of the pet economy. In this episode, Lucas and Luna dig into why PE firms are snapping up independent pet crematories, what the economics look like (low competition, high recurring demand, sticky customer relationships), and the ethical questions that come with profiting from grief. They cover a typical deal structure, the role of pet insurance and the humanization of pets, and what it means for families who thought they were hiring a local family business. Expect specific numbers on market size and consolidation rates, plus a candid take on the optics of this niche. It's a classic roll-up story with a twist: the customers never come back — and that's exactly the point. #PrivateEquity #PetCremation #RollUps #PetEconomy #BusinessAcquisitions #Buyout #PetLoss #Consolidation #PETsMarts #FinancialServices #Investing #MergersAndAcquisitions #SmallBusiness #FragmentedMarket #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Finance #Careers Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Private Equity Is Buying Up Ambulance Services
Aug 17, 202611 minS4
In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore how private equity firms are consolidating ambulance and emergency medical services across the US. They focus on the recent acquisition of a major regional ambulance provider by a large PE firm, and what that means for response times, staffing, and the quality of care. With rising call volumes and a chronic paramedic shortage, the financial pressures on these essential services are intense. Lucas breaks down the economics of ambulance operations—why they're capital-intensive, how reimbursement works, and where the margins are—while Luna raises the concern about whether profit motives can coexist with public safety. They also look at the broader trend of health-care services being acquired by financial sponsors, and what it means for communities that depend on these services. A thoughtful look at a high-stakes industry that most of us only think about in emergencies. #AmbulanceServices #PrivateEquity #EmergencyMedicalServices #EMSConsolidation #ParamedicShortage #HealthCareInvesting #BusinessAcquisitions #RollUps #MergersAndAcquisitions #BuyoutShow #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #InvestingPodcast #PrivateEquityRollUp #HealthcareMergers #HealthCareMergersAcquisitions #PublicSafety #EmergencyMedicine Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Private Equity Is Buying Up Dental Support Organizations
Aug 16, 20268 minS4
In this episode of The Buyout Show, Lucas and Luna dive into the quiet consolidation of dental support organizations (DSOs) — the companies that buy up independent dental practices and provide back-office support. They unpack how DSOs have grown from a handful of players in the 1990s to over 600 today, controlling roughly 15 percent of the U.S. dental market. Lucas explains the roll-up playbook: buying practices at 4-6 times EBITDA, centralizing billing and procurement, and lifting margins by 300-500 basis points. Luna challenges the narrative, asking about the trade-offs for dentists and patients, from clinical autonomy to the rise of corporate dentistry. They discuss the recent antitrust scrutiny on DSOs and what it means for future deals. If you've ever wondered why your dentist's office has a corporate logo, this episode breaks down the economics behind it. How Private Equity Is Buying Up Veterinary Clinics
Aug 15, 20268 minS4
In this episode of The Buyout Show, Lucas and Luna explore the rapid consolidation of independent veterinary practices by private equity firms. With over 25,000 clinics in the U.S., about a third are now owned by corporations or investment groups. They break down why vet clinics are attractive targets—fragmented market, recession-resistant revenue, and high margins—and what it means for pet owners, vets, and the animals themselves. Lucas walks through a typical deal structure, including how earn-outs work, and Luna shares a personal story about her vet's recent sell-out. They discuss the rise of mega-groups like Compassion-First and National Veterinary Associates, the pushback from vets worried about care quality, and the regulatory scrutiny from the FTC. The episode wraps with a look at how independent clinics are fighting back with co-ops and PE-funded competitors. If you've ever wondered who's really in charge at your pet's clinic, this episode gives you the inside scoop. #PrivateEquity #VeterinaryClinics #VetConsolidation #PetCare #VetMedicine #Business #Acquisitions #RollUps #Healthcare #FragmentedMarket #Pets #VetIndustry #Buyout #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Investing #FTC #EarnOuts Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
