The Tape at the Bottom of the Hematite Drift
<p>In the autumn of 1998, Luna and a friend slip into an abandoned hematite mine outside Elkford, West Virginia. The entrance is boarded, but they find a way in. Three hundred feet deep, they discover a small chamber with a cot, a rusted stove, and a portable cassette recorder. Inside it, a tape labeled 'For you.' When Luna presses play, her own voice comes out—older, wearier—warning her not to open the door behind the stove. She opens it anyway. At the bottom of a hidden passage lies another recorder, identical, playing a stranger's voice. They run. But back...
