CCHA Reporter's Corner: Commissioner Don Lucia discusses a busy offseason

  Oct 1, 20261h 5mS1

With the 2026-27 season officially getting underway this weekend, it's time to talk commish puck with The Commish himself. On episode No. 59, CCHA Commissioner Don Lucia joins The CCHA Reporter's Corner to discuss a litany of offseason topics with co-hosts Jared Rubado and Trent Singer. It was an interesting offseason for Lucia, who put in a lot of work alongside other college hockey commissioners to propose an important change to the NCAA's initial age-based eligibility model. With the help of advocates in college basketball as well as hockey coaches from across the junior, college and professional ranks, Lucia and his fellow commissioners got the proposal to pass. Lucia talks about the work that was done and the general reaction of how it all unfolded. He also discusses the impact of CHL recruiting in the conference before diving into the prospect of college hockey forming a healthy relationship with Canadian major junior hockey. Lucia then talks about coach Garrett Raboin's commitment to remain at Augustana as well as Tom Serratore's recent retirement announcement. And what went into the decision to bring the MacNaughton Cup to Houghton on the final weekend of the regular season? Lucia gives his reasoning in this episode. Sep 24, 20261h 25mS1

It's time to make some predictions for the 2026-27 season. On the 58th episode of The CCHA Reporter's Corner, co-hosts Jared Rubado and Trent Singer do just that, revealing the players and teams they believe will define the upcoming season in the CCHA. Rubado and Singer discuss their preseason rankings and all-conference teams, including which transfers and freshmen will have the biggest impact on their respective squads. Rubado, who covers the Beavers, gives his take on what the 26th-year coach has meant to the program as well as what the future will look like at BSU as Travis Winter steps in to replace his mentor at the helm. After breaking down all eight teams in the CCHA last week, Rubado and Singer spent an hour and a half giving their predictions for what the 2026-27 season will hold. Will they be perfect? CCHA Reporter's Corner: Two-hour 2026-27 preview extravaganza

  Sep 16, 20261h 59mS1

The college hockey season is just around the corner. On Episode No. 57 of The CCHA Reporter's Corner, co-hosts Jared Rubado and Trent Singer dig into the weeds for almost two hours, breaking down all eight teams in the conference ahead of the start of the 2026-27 season. Following the league's annual media day, Rubado and Singer take a look at each team in the conference, breaking down the numbers as well as who's back, who's gone and who's new. The Michigan Tech Huskies enter the season as the favorites in both preseason polls. They're certainly loaded, but can they be a more consistent team in order to get back to the NCAA tournament? Meanwhile, a MacNaughton Cup race that was decided by two points between five different teams is shaping up to be another tight one. Will Minnesota State have what it takes to win a third straight league title? And who else will be in contention when it's all said and done? Even teams at the bottom of the CCHA have a fresh slate and renewed hopes as they get ready for the 2026-27 season. Can Northern Michigan, Ferris State and Lake Superior State improve their standing from a year ago despite some heavy roster turnover? There aren't many predictions, if any, in this episode, but there's plenty of information. Everything you need to prime yourself for the 2026-27 season is right here in this two-hour preview extravaganza. Mar 20, 2026—S1

The 55th episode of The CCHA Reporter's Corner features longtime college hockey broadcaster Ben Holden, who will be calling Friday night's CCHA Mason Cup championship game alongside Pat Micheletti in Mankato. With co-host Trent Singer and producer Cordell Wright out of town covering high school basketball, Jared Rubado leads the show on his own, discussing a litany of different topics with Holden on this hourlong episode.
