Lucas and Luna take the mystery out of credit scores, focusing on the FICO algorithm, credit report mechanics, and what borrower health really means in a tightening economy. Each episode drills into a single dimension of credit — how payment history weighting shifts after a late payment, why credit utilization thresholds vary by lender, or how the removal of medical collections from credit reports changes risk profiles for millions. Lucas brings the data: actual FICO score distributions by age bracket, state-by-state average credit limits, and the precise impact of a hard inquiry on a thin file. Luna pushes back with real-world scenarios — a freelancer with irregular income, a recent graduate with no installment loans, a small-business owner mixing personal and business debt. Together they test conventional wisdom against the numbers, debunking myths (no, checking your own score doesn't hurt it) and mapping out strategic moves for listeners who want to build, repair, or optimize their

How a New Credit Card Can Lower Your Score
Aug 21, 20267 minS4
In this episode of The Credit Score Podcast, hosts Lucas and Luna explore a counterintuitive but real phenomenon: opening a new credit card can actually cause your FICO score to drop. They break down the mechanics behind this—including hard inquiries, lower average account age, and the dip that follows a new credit line—and explain when it''s worth enduring the temporary hit. Using a concrete example of a borrower with a 760 score who opens a new card and sees a 10- to 15-point drop, Lucas walks through the timeline of recovery and the factors that determine how long it takes. They also discuss the strategic side: when churning for rewards makes sense and when it''s a bad idea, especially if you''re about to apply for a mortgage or auto loan. By the end, you''ll know exactly what to expect when you open a new card, how to minimize the damage, and why your score usually bounces back within a few months. This is a must-listen for anyone considering a new credit card. #NewCreditCard #FICOScore #CreditScoreDrop #HardInquiry #AverageAccountAge #CreditUtilization #CreditRewards #CreditStrategy #BorrowerHealth #CreditReport #PersonalFinance #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #CreditEducation #MoneyTips #LucasAndLuna #TheCreditScorePodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How a Second Chance Bank Account Affects Your Credit Score
Aug 20, 20268 minS4
In this episode of The Credit Score Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore the surprising relationship between second chance bank accounts and your credit score. You might think a checking account has nothing to do with your credit, but it can. The hosts break down how banks use ChexSystems to screen applicants, how a bounced check or overdraft can land you on a negative report, and why a second chance account can be a lifeline even though it won't directly build credit. They share a real example: a listener named Marcus who, after a rough patch with overdrafts, opened a second chance account, rebuilt his banking history, and eventually qualified for a secured credit card. The episode explains how negative banking records can hurt you when applying for credit and what you can do to improve your banking footprint. Lucas and Luna also discuss the difference between ChexSystems and your regular credit report, and how to dispute errors. Practical tips include how to use a second chance account responsibly and when to transition to a mainstream account. If you've ever been denied a checking account, this episode is for you. #SecondChanceBanking #ChexSystems #CreditScore #BankingHistory #Overdraft #BouncedCheck #CheckingAccount #FinancialFreshStart #CreditBuilding #SecuredCreditCard #FICOScore #CreditReport #Finance #PersonalFinance #CreditTips #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #MoneyTalks Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
The New FICO 10 T Scoring Model and What It Means for Borrowers
Aug 19, 202610 minS4
FICO 10 T is rolling out in late 2026, and it's changing how lenders see your credit. In this episode, Lucas and Luna break down the key differences from older FICO models: how trended data weighs your payment history over 24 months, and how that can help or hurt borrowers with consistent behavior. They share a concrete example of someone whose score drops because of a single late payment on a card they rarely use, and explain why FICO 10 T might actually be good news for young borrowers with thin files. Plus, they dig into a lesser-known feature: the new scoring model's treatment of personal loans and BNPL accounts, and what that means for your credit mix. If you've ever wondered why your score changes when lenders pull a different FICO version, this episode clarifies the mechanics and the practical steps you can take now to prepare for the shift. #FICO10T #CreditScore #CreditReporting #FICO #BorrowerHealth #Finance #PersonalFinance #CreditEducation #TrendedData #PaymentHistory #CreditMix #BNPL #Lending #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #CreditTips #FinancialLiteracy #CreditModel Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In this episode of The Credit Score Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore a surprising credit score phenomenon: upgrading your existing credit card can temporarily hurt your FICO score. They walk through the mechanics of account re-reporting, how a new account number can reset your account age, and why a hard inquiry might not be the main culprit. Using a hypothetical example of a five-year-old card upgraded to a rewards tier, they show how credit utilization and average age of accounts shift in unexpected ways. Lucas shares a specific scenario where a client saw a 22-point drop after a routine upgrade, and they discuss how long it typically takes to recover. They also offer practical tips for timing upgrades around big purchases or loan applications. The episode closes with a reflection on how even 'good' credit actions can have short-term costs, and a reminder that understanding the system beats gaming it. #CreditScore #FICOScore #CreditCardUpgrade #CreditUtilization #AverageAgeOfAccounts #HardInquiry #CreditReport #PersonalFinance #Finance #CreditEducation #BorrowerHealth #LucasAndLuna #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #CreditTips #CreditHealth #CreditMyths #CreditRepair Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Thinking about freezing your credit to protect against identity theft? This episode of The Credit Score Podcast with Fexingo digs into a common worry: does a security freeze actually hurt your FICO score? Lucas and Luna explain what a credit freeze does, what it doesn't do, and why your score stays untouched. They walk through the difference between a freeze and a fraud alert, how to lift a freeze temporarily when you're applying for a loan or a credit card, and what the major bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — make you do to get it done. You'll also hear why a freeze can actually help you by blocking fraudulent accounts you never opened, and why some lenders might still see a freeze as a hassle. If you've ever hesitated to freeze your credit because you thought it would cost you points, this episode clears up the confusion once and for all. #CreditFreeze #FICOScore #CreditReport #IdentityTheft #CreditBureaus #Equifax #Experian #TransUnion #FraudAlert #CreditScore #PersonalFinance #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #CreditPodcast #BorrowerHealth #CreditTips #FinancialSecurity Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
