If the people who know me best told my story, would they say I faithfully followed Jesus? One day, somebody will tell your story. Give them something worth telling. Love your wife. Lead your children. Serve your church. Keep your word. Kill secret sin. Walk humbly. Stay disciplined. Follow Jesus. And when you fall— get back up. A STRONG START IS INSPIRING.   How do you know if you're actually growing as a Christian? Paul doesn't end his prayer by asking the Philippians to simply know more . He wants their lives to show something. Love abounds. Knowledge and discernment grow. Decisions change. Character changes. And eventually, something becomes visible: fruit. Paul prays that they would be “filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ.” That's an important distinction. Spiritual activity and spiritual maturity aren't always the same thing. You can know Bible verses and still treat people terribly. You can listen to sermons and refuse to forgive. You can be busy around church while your character remains unchanged. Fruit is evidence that what Jesus is doing inside of you is beginning to show up outside of you. In this episode, we unpack three truths about a life that bears fruit: BE FILLED WITH FRUIT — What God is doing inside of you should eventually become visible outside of you. Your words, relationships, reactions, habits, integrity, forgiveness, generosity, and love should increasingly look like Jesus. STAY CONNECTED TO CHRIST — Fruit doesn't come from willpower, self-help, or religious performance. It comes “through Jesus Christ.” Stop trying to be the source. Stay connected to the Source. LIVE FOR THE GLORY OF GOD — The goal isn't for people to look at your growth and become impressed with you. If Christ produced the fruit, Christ deserves the glory. Look at the progression of Paul's entire prayer: your heart grows, your mind matures, your decisions change, your character changes, and your life bears fruit. And all of it ends in one place: the glory and praise of God. That's discipleship. God changes your heart, mind, decisions, character, and life until people can look at you and say, “Jesus has done something in you.” Ask Yourself What fruit is growing? Where am I becoming more like Jesus—and where is fruit still missing? Am I connected to the Source? Am I trying harder or abiding deeper? Who is getting the glory? Does my growth draw attention to me or point people toward Jesus? THE FRUIT IS IN YOUR LIFE, BUT THE GLORY BELONGS TO GOD. STAY CONNECTED TO CHRIST. LET HIM PRODUCE THE FRUIT. GIVE GOD ALL THE GLORY. LET YOUR LIFE GROW WHAT MAKES HEAVEN GLAD AND POINTS THE WORLD TO JESUS.   Not everything that is good is God's best for your life. Paul's prayer in Philippians keeps building. First, he prays that our love would abound . Then, that our love would grow with knowledge and discernment . Why? So that we can “approve what is excellent.” Christian maturity isn't just learning to recognize right from wrong. It's developing the wisdom to distinguish between good and best, permissible and profitable, important and essential. You have limited time, energy, attention, resources, and capacity. That means you can't give everything your yes. Sometimes following Jesus means saying no to something good so you can say yes to what matters most. And as we learn to choose what is excellent, Paul says God produces something deeper in us: lives that are increasingly pure and blameless for the day of Christ. In this episode, we unpack three challenges from Philippians 1:9–10: APPROVE WHAT IS BEST — Stop asking only, “Is this wrong?” Start asking, “Is this best?” Test what enters your life and choose what actually deserves your time, attention, and energy. PURSUE RADICAL AUTHENTICITY — Bring your life into the light. Who you are publicly should match who you are privately. No masks. No secret version of you. Can your life survive the sunlight?   Yesterday Paul prayed that our love would “abound more and more.” But he doesn't stop with more love. He wants better love. Love that knows what's true. Love that recognizes what's wise. Love that can discern what's actually best. Because sincerity isn't enough. You can sincerely want to help someone and still hurt them. You can call something loving that God calls destructive. Biblical love isn't blind emotion, and it isn't simply doing whatever makes another person happy. Biblical love has a big heart and a biblical mind. Paul says our love should grow “with knowledge and all discernment.” That means God's Word—not culture, feelings, or popular opinion—teaches us what love actually looks like. And ultimately, we see perfect love in Jesus: grace and truth together. He never sacrificed truth to appear loving, and He never weaponized truth to appear righteous. In this episode, we unpack three truths about learning to love better: KNOWLEDGE IS ROOTED IN THE WORD OF GOD LOVE IS ROOTED IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD DISCERNMENT CHASES THE BEST WAY TO LOVE Discernment is where love gets practical.   Here's a question we probably don't ask enough: Are you getting better at loving people? Paul isn't praying for the Philippians to discover love for the first time. They already love. They've supported him, partnered with him, and stayed beside him while he's sitting in prison. But Paul still prays, “that your love may abound more and more.” In other words, yesterday's love isn't the finish line. There's always room to become more patient, more generous, more compassionate, more sacrificial, and ultimately more like Jesus. You never outgrow the command to grow in love. And Paul isn't talking about sentimental love or simply having stronger feelings toward people. He uses agapē —the self-giving, others-focused, sacrificial love we see most clearly in Jesus. It's a love that gives when giving costs something, seeks what is genuinely best for another person, and serves even when serving interrupts the schedule. Biblical love isn't measured merely by what you feel. It's revealed by how you live. In this episode, we unpack three expressions of the love Paul is praying will abound: LOVE THAT IS SELF-GIVING LOVE THAT SEEKS THE GOOD OF ANOTHER LOVE THAT SERVES BEYOND CONVENIENCE But here's the good news: you don't have to manufacture an endless supply of love yourself. Eventually your patience runs out. Your energy fades. Your compassion gets thin. But Christ's supply never runs dry. The more you understand the abundant love you've received from Jesus, the more His love can overflow through you into the lives of others. So maybe today's question isn't simply, “Do I love people?” Ask something harder: “Am I loving people more than I used to?” Can the people closest to you see that you're more patient? More generous? More forgiving? More willing to serve? More like Jesus? Because the longer you've experienced the love of Christ, the more the love of Christ should be experienced through you. Ask Yourself What does my love actually cost me? Am I seeking what's truly good for people—or simply what's easiest? Who can I serve today even if it interrupts my convenience? THE MORE CHRIST'S LOVE FILLS YOU, THE MORE CHRIST'S LOVE SHOULD FLOW THROUGH YOU. DON'T JUST LOVE. LET YOUR LOVE ABOUND.
