The Do-Over Podcast may officially be on YouTube time out… so naturally Drew and Jess decided this was the perfect episode to say even MORE things they probably shouldn't say. S02 E60 goes completely off the rails as Drew and Jess dive into everything from YouTube's mysterious algorithm and getting demonetized to Jess's wild Palm Springs weekend, relationship disasters, dating stories, getting older, Drew slowly transforming into a wide-brimmed-hat-and-phone-holster dad, and the absolute insanity of modern internet culture. Jess returns from an unbelievable Palm Springs trip surrounded by beautiful people and immediately questions every decision she's ever made. Meanwhile, Drew gets LEFT BEHIND on his own family's Santa Cruz trip, drives hours to catch them, gets destroyed by the sun, buys a giant hat and realizes the algorithm apparently thinks he's reached the “phone holster” stage of adulthood. That entire progression happens in the episode and is one of its funniest recurring stories. Then things get considerably more unhinged. The conversation turns toward dating, relationships, social media, bizarre internet personalities, whether algorithms reward the most extreme people online, and a generation of kids who apparently all want the same career: influencer. Drew and Jess debate what social media is doing to normal people and why being reasonable doesn't seem to generate clicks anymore. And somehow it ends with British food, beans on toast, reaction videos, questionable accents and the realization that maybe there actually is a good side to the Internet.
