Every marketing team wants higher open rates, but the metrics that actually matter — list churn, segment responsiveness, and deliverability decay — rarely make it into the headlines. In each episode, Lucas and Luna cut through the email-marketing noise, dissecting real newsletter strategies from brands like Morning Brew, The Hustle, and Substack’s top earners. They walk through specific A/B test results (subject-line length, send-time windows, preview-text impact), debate the trade-offs between daily and weekly cadences, and map out how subscriber-growth tactics shift when a list grows from 1,000 to 100,000. Luna challenges Lucas to defend his skepticism of open-rate benchmarks, while Lucas pushes Luna to prove that sequencing and automation deliver more than one-off blasts. They name the tools they trust (and the ones they don't), cite actual case studies from B2C and B2B campaigns, and never resort to vague 'best practices.' Why Email List Segmentation Is Overrated
Aug 18, 20268 minS4
Lucas and Luna challenge a common belief: that list segmentation is always worth the effort. They dig into a real B2B software company that ditched complex segmentation for a simpler approach — and saw a 17 percent lift in engagement. They discuss when segmentation makes sense, when it backfires, and how audience size and data quality change the calculus. Plus, a practical rule of thumb for knowing when to segment and when to keep it simple, and how the hosts' own experience on Fexingo's newsletter shaped their view. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by tags, custom fields, and automations, this episode is for you. #EmailMarketing #Segmentation #B2BMarketing #NewsletterStrategy #SubscriberEngagement #MarketingPodcast #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #MarketingTips #EmailStrategy #AudienceGrowth #DataDrivenMarketing #SimpleMarketing #EmailListHealth #MarketingExperiments #LucasAndLuna #PodcastEpisode #MarketingInsights Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In this episode of The Email Marketing Podcast, Lucas and Luna dive into the surprisingly under-discussed topic of email authentication and its direct impact on deliverability. With Google and Yahoo's 2024 sender requirements still reshaping the inbox landscape, they break down how SPF, DKIM, and DMARC work together to keep your emails out of spam. Using the example of a mid-sized e-commerce brand that saw its open rates jump 12 percent after implementing DMARC, they explain the technical basics in plain English and offer a practical, step-by-step plan for listeners to audit their own authentication setup. Luna challenges Lucas on whether smaller senders can really get away with skipping these protocols, and they discuss the long-term benefits of building sender reputation. Tune in to learn why authentication is not just for IT teams, and how a few DNS tweaks can protect your domain from spoofing and boost your email performance. This episode is a must-listen for marketers who've been putting off this technical chore but want to see real gains in their email program. #EmailAuthentication #Deliverability #DMARC #SPF #DKIM #EmailMarketing #SenderReputation #EmailSpam #InboxPlacement #EmailDeliverability #EmailSecurity #DNS #EmailStrategy #Marketing #DigitalMarketing #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #EmailTips Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
