Lucas and Luna sit down with practicing financial advisors to demystify the relationship between planner and client. Each episode examines a real advisory firm's business model — fee structures, asset allocation philosophy, tax-minimization tactics — and tests it against the fiduciary standard. Lucas presses for the numbers behind the pitch: how a planner's compensation affects the advice they give, how often they rebalance portfolios, what benchmarks they use. Luna, representing the engaged client, asks the uncomfortable questions: 'How do you get paid if I don't follow your recommendation?' and 'What happens to my plan when you sell your practice?' Together they explore how fiduciary duty plays out in everyday decisions — from selecting a 401(k) provider to navigating a concentrated stock position. The show is for anyone who works with a financial advisor or is considering hiring one: you'll learn what to ask, what to look for in a client agreement, and how to spot conflicts of inter

How Advisors Should Handle Client Debt Before Retirement
Aug 21, 202610 minS4
In Episode 161 of The Financial Advisor Podcast, Lucas and Luna tackle a topic many advisors avoid until it's too late: helping clients carry manageable, strategic debt into retirement. They break down the 'good debt vs. bad debt' framework, using a concrete example of a couple with a low-interest mortgage and high-interest credit card debt, and explain why paying off the mortgage early isn't always the right move. They dig into the math of interest rates versus investment returns, the emotional side of debt, and how advisors can help clients reframe their mindset. Plus, they discuss when it makes sense to keep a mortgage into retirement to preserve liquidity, and the importance of stress-testing debt payments against a market downturn. Tune in for a practical guide to turning debt from a scary topic into a strategic planning tool. #DebtManagement #RetirementPlanning #GoodDebt #BadDebt #Mortgage #CreditCardDebt #AdvisorAdvice #FiduciaryDuty #FinancialPlanning #retirement #PersonalFinance #Investing #Liquidity #StressTest #CashFlow #InterestRates #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Why Your Advisor Should Explain the 60-40 Portfolio
Aug 20, 20267 minS4
On this episode of The Financial Advisor Podcast, Lucas and Luna discuss why the classic 60-40 portfolio — 60 percent stocks, 40 percent bonds — may not be what your advisor leads with in 2026. They unpack the history of the strategy, its failures in the 2022 bear market, and how advisors are adapting with alternatives like private credit, real assets, and dynamic allocation. They also explore the concept of risk tolerance versus capacity, and how a good fiduciary should stress-test assumptions about correlation. Tune in to learn what questions to ask your planner about your own allocation, and whether a stubborn 60-40 is still fit for purpose in a post-2022 world. #60-40Portfolio #AssetAllocation #FiduciaryDuty #FinancialAdvisor #RetirementPlanning #Bonds #Stocks #PrivateCredit #RealAssets #RiskTolerance #MarketCorrelation #2022BearMarket #AdvisorTips #Finance #Investing #WealthManagement #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Advisors Should Explain Social Security Claiming Strategies
Aug 19, 202612 minS4
In Episode 159 of The Financial Advisor Podcast, Lucas and Luna unpack the complexities of Social Security claiming strategies. With retirement income planning more critical than ever in August 2026, they drill into the file-and-suspend strategy, why it was effectively eliminated by the Bipartisan Budget Act, and what advisors should tell clients today. They discuss the 8 percent annual delayed-retirement credit, break-even analysis, and the importance of spousal benefit coordination. Using a concrete example of a couple deciding at 62 versus 70, they illustrate how claiming decisions can mean hundreds of thousands of dollars in lifetime benefits. Lucas shares how some advisors still misuse outdated claiming strategies, and Luna asks the practical questions every client wants answered. They also touch on how inflation-adjusted cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) factor into the math, and why a claiming decision is more than just a break-even point. The episode offers a clear framework for advisors and clients to think about claiming age, longevity, and the role of Social Security in a diversified retirement income plan. #SocialSecurity #RetirementPlanning #ClaimingStrategies #FinancialAdvisor #FiduciaryDuty #RetirementIncome #FileAndSuspend #DelayedRetirementCredit #SpousalBenefits #BreakEvenAnalysis #RetirementAge #FinancialPlanning #AdvisorAdvice #LongevityRisk #InflationProtected #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Finance Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Why Your Advisor Should Explain the Net Investment Income Tax
Aug 18, 202612 minS4
In this episode, Lucas and Luna unpack the 3.8 percent Net Investment Income Tax, or NIIT — a surcharge that quietly hits high earners' investment returns and is often overlooked in financial plans. They walk through how the tax works, who it applies to, and why advisors should proactively model it for clients nearing the income thresholds. Using a concrete example of a retired couple with rental income and capital gains, they show how a little planning can save thousands. They also discuss the surprising interaction between NIIT and Roth conversions, and why the tax's existence is a strong argument for tax diversification. If you've ever wondered why your tax bill seems higher than expected, this episode offers a clear, practical guide to one of the most misunderstood taxes in the code. #NetInvestmentIncomeTax #NIIT #TaxPlanning #WealthManagement #FiduciaryAdvisor #RetirementPlanning #CapitalGains #RothConversion #TaxDiversification #HighEarners #FinancialAdvisor #Podcast #Business #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #FiscalResponsibility #TaxSeason Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Why Your Advisor Should Explain Tax-Loss Harvesting
Aug 17, 202612 minS4
In this episode of The Financial Advisor Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore why your advisor should proactively explain tax-loss harvesting—especially in a market like August 2026, when volatility offers opportunities. They break down how the strategy works, the $3,000 annual limit on ordinary income deductions, and how it interacts with the wash-sale rule. Using a concrete example with a fictional investor, they illustrate how harvesting losses can lower your tax bill without derailing a long-term plan. They also discuss the importance of understanding the difference between tax-loss harvesting and tax-gain harvesting, and why your advisor should tailor the strategy to your specific tax situation, including state taxes and the net investment income tax. The episode emphasizes that a fiduciary advisor should not just execute trades but educate you on the 'why' behind them. Tune in to learn how to turn market downturns into tax advantages—and why your advisor should be your partner in this process. #TaxLossHarvesting #FinancialAdvisor #FiduciaryDuty #Investing #TaxStrategy #WealthManagement #WashSaleRule #CapitalGains #RetirementPlanning #Finance #TaxPlanning #AdvisorEducation #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #LucasAndLuna #August2026 #MarketVolatility #TaxEfficiency Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
