Episode #286
Catherine of Genoa: The Sacred Ledger
In fifteenth-century Genoa, a young noblewoman named Catherine Fieschi endured a decade of misery in an arranged marriage before a single overwhelming moment of divine love broke open in the middle of an ordinary confession. Rather than retreating to a convent, she walked back into the same unhappy household and, in time, into the account books and sickrooms of a city hospital, where she and her transformed husband spent the rest of their lives serving Genoa's poor and plague-stricken. Harmonia tells the story of a saint who found holiness not by escaping the ordinary world, but by refusing to believe it was ever separate from the sacred at all.
