Apple layoffs 2026: new CEO John Ternus wants a leaner company, faster launches and fewer management layers. APPLE'S NEW CEO AND THE MANAGEMENT CUTS Ternus became Apple CEO on September 1, 2026. Tim Cook became executive chairman. On September 29, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple had removed engineering program managers from their roles over the preceding two weeks. Affected employees reportedly have weeks to find another internal position. Those unable to secure one face layoffs later this year. The total affected is undisclosed. Senior titles did not save those positions. RECENT APPLE JOB CUTS August reporting identified more than 200 affected positions across Vision Pro, Siri and software. Apple acknowledged restructuring affecting existing roles while creating new ones. State filings reported by the San Francisco Chronicle identified 147 Bay Area positions with October layoff dates. Those are geographic detail within the August round, not an additional 147 cuts. September reporting also described a handful of Fitness+ layoffs. LEANER TEAMS, MORE WORK Reported early 2027 planning includes flat staffing, reduced planned budget increases and lower marketing spending. Product teams face pressure for more frequent launches on shorter timelines.
