Scott Aaronson on the Impact of AI on Science and Mathematics
We had the opportunity to meet with Scott Aaronson and talk AI. Scott Aaronson is a theoretical computer scientist and the David J. Bruton Jr. Centennial Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on quantum computing and computational complexity, particularly on understanding the capabilities and fundamental limits of quantum computers. Aaronson also spent roughly two years on leave from UT Austin working at OpenAI, where he was part of the Superalignment team and worked on questions at the intersection of theoretical computer science, AI safety, and alignment. Beyond his research, he is a prominent science communicator who has given hundreds of public lectures, interviews, and podcasts on quantum computing, complexity, and AI. He writes the long-running blog **Shtetl-Optimized**, where he discusses quantum computing, theoretical computer science, AI, academia, and science more broadly: https://scottaaronson.blog/
