Welcome to the Space Machine. Tonight we're celebrating Danish Electronica—more specifically, Gen 1.0 of the genre: the underground kids with curious minds who couldn’t help experimenting with sound, challenging machines and effects, and trying things out just to see what might happen. The “wrong” way may be the most interesting way of all. It’s the sound, the energy, the feeling that matters. No one cares about rules or limitations. We want to escape into sound. We want to take a trip to the universe. We celebrate both those who were and those who are. This is an extended episode, and the theme was chosen after losing our third colleague in just a few years. All of them were far too young to go. Each had carved out their own path in the electronica scene. All were quirky, original characters with a never-ending passion for creating music. With this episode, I also want to celebrate those of us who are still here, still making sound, still searching for ways to express a feeling and pay the rent. This music never had a mainstream market. It remained underground until it found its way into the consciousness of certain listeners—becoming a discovery, an inspiration, a world of its own. Enjoy.
